Where to stop on F2 engine?

The F2 engine I am working on - I know nothing about it except it had good numbers on all four cylinders  in the compression test.

I pulled the head due to the F2 reputation and it needs valve job alright.

Now I am wondering where should I stop - should I take jugs off and disassemble the transmission?  The cam chain is in good shape, the guide too, I would think it has less than 30 000 miles on it, more like 20 000.
The transmission shifts fine and spins freely, there was nothing in the pan - like metal shavings.

What is  your thought on it?  I can play with it for a year or two but money is short  as always.

Be careful of those rings,aren't they the ones that are hard to find ??

Yes, they are, that's why the jugs still sit on the engine.

I would probably check the stretch of the primary chains - the manual tells you how to do this - and, if it is well within specs, do what is needed to repair the head and then reassemble. The worst that can happen is to experience major mechanical noises on startup requiring a bottom end rebuild. Pat
