'70's joke, for those of us who remember those times
« on: July 20, 2006, 01:27:15 PM »
A Justice of the Peace is called to perform the wedding ceremony at a large outdoor gathering of hippies. Everyone goes to great lengths to tell him that this is a cool, relaxed, far out gathering, with no normal rules.

When it comes time to the ceremony he is confronted by two similarly dressed individuals, both with long hair completely covering their faces. Not wishing to commit a faux pas he leans towards the one who he assumes is the female, and asks "Forgive me for asking, but are you the one who has the menstrual cycle?"

From under the mass of hair comes the reply, in a male voice, "Actually I ride a Honda."

I never heard it in the 70's but now I live in a county where all the hippies of the 60's and 70's ended up.
Well not all but most who survived. I'll remember to use this one someday :)

When I was in High Skool (late 80's) some friends told me they wished they could have been hippies in the 60's, and I told them I wished I could have been in the National Guard, so I could have shot their unwashed arses.....

that's a really good question.....how about a new poll?

Admittedly, when I hear or see the word "biker" the first thing that pops into my head is some giant with long hair and a longer beard, covered in tattoos and more than ready to beat someone silly.  Sadly, this is the image that has been portrayed in movies and TV and such for many years.  It's a stereotype, just like those forced upon many ethnicities, religions, lifestyles, etc.

As far as hippies go, I never knew any "original" hippies, so have no comment there.  The "new" hippies irritate me; they think that they can use the word "hippie" to justify their laziness.  I know the hippies of yore stood for something, but these new ones are my age or younger (I'm 28) and they stand for getting high and mooching off of those of us who must work for a living.

Wasn't there some sort of juxtaposition with the "bikers" and the "hippies" in the 70s?

I agree with IC455's point of view, someone tough enough to brave the elements, and have the balls to do what they enjoy even though they know that crashing is a great possibility, I want to be a "biker" and I'm not tatoo'd, drinking smoking nail chewing mean guy, so I know that there isnt really a definition of a biker, as someones sigiture says "only bikers know, why dogs like riding with their heads out the window"

Damn!!!!!......I better run off and go make some popcorn for this one!!!!! Yeah....I also am curious to hear what our newbie chemist dude has to say about defining a biker. And the comments about the hippies!!!!! WTF? ??? no i havent seen the movie buit I hear great things about it...  I suppose my view of hippies is a lot different since i have onlyseen the "new hippies" as someone put it, i can see how the 60's bikers could be seen as hippies, long hair drugs and not caring about anything but the freedom of riding so i guess i was misspoken... please forgive my ignorant ravings about the "real hippies" I only know what South Park teaches me about them(i.e. Cartman)

I plan on posting tons of pics of my process rebuilding my bike when it is done, all i have to do now is gap the points and reinstall the carbs i rebuilt and it should be good to go...  I have been really busy since i bought it in June and have rebuilt it, cleaned it stripped and painted it, and did a total rewire of the whole system, all on my own with basic mechanical knowledge  so I'm sorry i'm not moving fast enough for the group, Also I cant wait to BE riding it much less have you people see me ride it

Yeah,I wouldn't count on any of the "hippies that survived " to help you out much. It's all about you isn't it? Better go to the humor section now to see the latest ratings on the new jokes.

It takes a bigger man to accept an apollogy than to hold a grudge, think on that,

(of course a smart man wouldnt have made stupid comments about what he doesnt know in the first place, but i never claimed to have any sense)
