Hello fellow Cber's I have decided to get my bike build on here after it's at a decent point, and where I have to finish it if I put it on here. Before I continue, let me just tank the entire CB site and forum. You guys are just awesome in documenting your builds and techniques. I do believe the classic and cafe bike are doing a comeback because of these sites. Now a few you guys that pop into my head, Hondaman, Funjimmy, Squirley... I can keep going on and on but will leave it to the top three guys that have really inspired me. I been reading their builds and awesome craftsmanship and reading builds here and there and techniques people have experimented with. Hopefully I can pull some of the stuff I've read and seen others do. It is my first bike, but I have a decent mechanical understanding and love to learn everything, was a diesel mechanic for marine engines for a good amount of years.
It started off as a decent 550k. A few problems, rusted seat dangerous enough to get some gangrene, paint not so good. Especially the tank paint was pretty bad to the point that I sanded it down and spray painted it with some primer and matte black. I can't seem to find the original pics of the bike but, I got it in the middle(first picture). Where I had cleaned, polished and replaced a few things. Only to be followed by my desire to make it look sleek, light and completely different than what it was at that point.
Things that come up immediately that I have upgraded:
Top triple tree
Clip-ons
Build the seat out of stainless steel
build new brackets for battery and wires out of stainless steel,
new regulator/rectifier from charlies place
Removed original tachometer, speed and replaced it with a single tach
Relocated the choke
Ballistic battery
Things that are to come
Powdercoat the frame
new ignition switch---I need some help on finding a good one that will replace the stock but be on the smaller side.
Airbox-I want to keep the stock airbox and install an air-filter directly to it.
paint the tank
paint wheels?-still deciding on this
Replace lights with small led's
I tried to put the pics in order, sorry if I screwed them up as I was looking through my stack of other pic and trying to keep a mental note where I was at. The last pic is where the bike is at back in the courtyard.
