As mentioned in a few other threads, I pulled down my '72 836 and found 3 wiped cam lobes, very worn rockers, seized wristpin on #4 and the rest were tight in the piston, but came out with a light drift hit. Bent #4 like a banana drifting the pin out.
Cylinders prob won't clean up with a hone so at least an 850 kit, I'm thinkin I want more!
Need rods, pistons, rockers (not sure how many are wasted and $65 each for refacing @ Webcams is a bit pricy for me.
Webcam told me about $130 to hardweld and grind my 63A cam if the rest of the cam is good.
For now, given the season, I'm gonna throw my '78K in the chop just to get on the road, working on an EFI manifold similar to the POSA piece, with injectors in each runner and a single throttle body and fed by a turbo.
I have the material for the manifold, a wide assortment of injectors from modern sportbikes, Microsquirt controller, and waiting on a box of tubing bends for header.
Meanwhile I'm still looking to build up the parts I need to put the NA motor back in service.
So my wish list is:
bigger bore kit
super rods
rockers
Since I'm splitting the cases, might as well replace the primary chain.
Cam chain was part of the original freshen up.
Doncha just hate when a simple ring and hone turns into a major rebuild?
