You mean I'm the only one that texts while I'm on my bike?

I used to listen to music while I rode, until above the music I heard a rattling when I downshifted.  I didn't hear it all the time and kept riding to the next stoplight.  While stopped I looked down on bothsides for some indication as to what could be making the rattle.  Fortunately at the stoplight I had removed one ear phone, as I rode across the intersection I heard the noise again, this time I could hear that it was coming from the lower leftside.  I pulled to the side of the roadway and stopped got off to check and found the backing ring on the front Baron's pulley of my Roadstar had come away from the pulley and had fallen back between the pulley and transmission case.  Four bolts held that ring in place, all bolts were gone and the ring was acting like a hullahoop around the shaft.

I was several miles from home so I gingerly road the bike back to the house and fixed the ring and pulley.  The ring was beat up pretty bad and I had to replace it.  It showed marks where it had jammed up between the belt and transmission, fortunately it never got jammed good enough to either cause the belt to jump the pulley or jam enough to lock the rear wheel.  Needless to say I run with earplugs but only for protection, never music  :o

Very cool, but I would add in a rubber case included in the mount and some sort of locking device.

Cool set up, tough on the cell battery especially if you set the screen to constant display while running the app.   :(

Well I always take my phone with me so lockin isn't an issue at all. And it had a case in it and the case attached to the mount with industrial Velcro.
I actually wrecked at 50 mph and the phone was still in the mount when I picked the bike up so its fairly secure.

The only shortcoming I found was that the iPhone GPS chip updates at "up to" 2hz. So the speedo jumps a lot. At full throttle it would go 5....15.....30....60.  Kinda sucked. And there was some lag so when you hit the ton you had to hold it there for it to register 8)

I should have warned the OP that this is one of those topics where it is impossible to get honest responses without 100 unilateral responses of "not safe, never do it, its never okay, I am 100% sure you will die" etc etc...

All of us take part in at least one practice considered unsafe by others (like running no blinkers). Hell riding a motorcycle at all is considered by many to be a death sentence. The fact is it all comes down to the awareness of the rider  and the manner in which the bike is ridden. I know it is sacrilege to admit, but I've retrofitted Bluetooth into my helmet and I often stream music at a reasonable volume while riding, and I adjust my riding style accordingly.

I bought a cheap Plantronics Bluetooth headset (the douchey kind that goes over your ear) from Walmart. Then I popped it open and soldered in some headphones. Mounted the body portion of the headset (with the mic) on the front of the helmet in the former location of a vent. If you plan to do this and anticipate wanting to use it for music as well as other functions, just make sure whichever headset you get is "A2DP" meaning it is able to stream music via Bluetooth.

I agree with all of you about the safety concern, however one ear bud in the ear, phone on the tank and google maps means I can go anywhere even with my retarded sense of direction. I don't look down unless I pull over, however I do use the turn by turn directions through the earbud.

In 50 years of driving and riding I have criss crossed the country several times both north and south, east and west and always got to where I was going with just a old fashioned paper road map and paying attention to road signs.  That was before GPS was invented.  Two years ago my wife bought me a Garmin GPS.  In the first three months I had it I got bad directions from it twice.  It is now in a desk drawer collecting dust.  Not that I don't trust it, but who really needs it?  Correction, I guess I really don't trust them.

When people ask for directions to get to my house I warn them that GPS directions will take them miles the long way and to just follow my directions instead.
Many of them disregard what I tell them and follow the GPS.
When they finally find my house they are pissed off and I remind them that I warned them. I have no sympathy for them

Technology is still not that good.

I'm curious about the direct sunlight on the phone's face, can you still see it? does it mess with the screen any over time?

I just picked up one of these:
http://www.jafrum.com/Shop-By-Brand/Vega-Full-Face-Helmets/Vega-Helmets-Vega-V-Tune-Helmet-Solids

I'm very pleased with the sound quality for the price. Plays in stereo which is rare to find in a lot of these helmets. The controls are also pretty low profile but still easy to find with a gloved hand.

My biggest problem with my hard wired phone mount was that occasionally, in full sunlight, the phone would overheat and shutdown.  At full brightness, though, it was easy to see even in full sunlight.
