Do carb sync hoses need to be fuel-proof?
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:19:58 AM »
Borrowed Spanner1's carb sync gauges but his hoses are starting to split at the end. Does the replacement hose need to be fuel-proof or can I just use regular vacuum hose?

I would say regular clear/vinyl hose should be fine. You are checking vacuum. I don't think fuel will enter those lines. even if it did, for the limited exposure time I doubt it would matter.  ****** Disclaimer, I have never vac-synced my carbs**** I only replied since no one else has so heres a bump for you and hopefully we will get confirmation from another member that I am brilliant and correct.

I used clear vinyl hoses for my synchro tool, but later went to rubber - it stays softer longer and is easier to put on and off carb adapters.

Vacuum hose should be fine.

That's what I thought; but since they belong to someone else I wanted to make sure. Thanks y'all!

Unless something is really wrong the gas vapors are going the other way. Vinyl is probably not apt to seal as well as rubber. That reminds me I have to replace mine. Thanks for the reminder!
