K0 carb rubbers on K6 spigots Ok?
« on: March 11, 2013, 01:09:36 PM »
I have just seen that the carb rubbers I bought new for +23 years ago where not correct.
Labels in the plastic bags: 16211-300-305, 16212-300-305. Should be 16211-300-030, 16212-300-030.

The older rubbers are made for shorter spigots which is very visible.
The question is if it will work anyway and not cause leakage when the rubber has less mm on the spigot compared with newer rubbers. Anyone that has done this without problems?
Additional sealer on the head spigots might help?

The carbs will have support with metal brackets on each side 1 and 4 attached to the frame, so they will not hang in the rubbers only.

The carb spigots are not fully attached into the rubbers either. I have just verified it was possible. Final fit after heating the rubber with a heater fan.

OK, I'll check with clamps. One good thing with shorter rubber over the spigots is that they can easier be bent to fit my carbs.
My old (today bakelite like) rubbers are slightly longer on this side over the head spigot.
New are otherwise not that expensive, 90Euro for a set.

Works OK to use -305's on long spigots but not OK to use -030's on short spigots.
Both are still available from Honda for the appropriate spigot lengths.

Yes, I had the feeling but still not convinced that I can trust that it will be no leak. New rubbers cost not that much, the old for future use. I have to think about it. I hoped to read here about people using same rubbers for long time without problem.

I have bad experience with leaking carb rubbers to these carbs. Mikuni-Honda rubbers delivered with the carbs Mikuni VM29 smoothbore. These rubbers were made of a too soft rubber that was very flexible and finally cracked after 4000 miles. 2 RC 836 pistons melted, one with a hole + connection rods upper end blue. --> New set of pistons  + new set of conrods.
