Hey all,
Pretty stumped here. I rebuilt my cb350 engine a while back to no avail and am still trying to get this right. Initial rebuild was performed after finding gas in the oil.
I rebuilt initially replacing the piston rings with a nice hone but there were still oil leaks. i tried "reusing" the old head gasket the first time and assummed this was the issue. The bike ran fine but smoked quite a bit. i took apart the engine and fount the head gasket wetted with oil.
i rebuilt again with a new head gasket, and new valve seals as well as new oil seals (oil tube seals on head) but there was still a leak. The bike also ran fine but looking like i was batman sporting a smokescreen down the road at all speeds. after this i also found oil all over my head gasket and in my cylinders when i disassembled.
I ordered a BK performance head gasket and rebuilt again after also having the head resurfaced. Bear in mind that the bike **WAS NOT SMOKING PRIOIR TO INITIAL REBUILD** the bike had gas in the oil so i replaced the rings. this rebuild fixed nothing (slightely smaller smokescreen due to THIN threebond around oil send and return tubes on head gasket)
so i went to retorque the head nuts and i ended up snapping a cylinder stud. It looked like the nut was bottomed out on the nut head.
So why am i having so much trouble? I thought for sure my last rebuild would be great! i also rode it for 100 mi while smoking to try and see if the rings werent broken in but obviously that wasnt the problem since the head gasket was oil saturated. With oil in every cylinder.
**THERE IS NO EXTERNAL OIL LEAKAGE PRESENT IN ANY REBULD**
Also where should i get another head stud and should i replace my head? I can attach photos at another time, but any input would be appreciated since i am thoroughly stumped. i used all the original hardware from the nonsmoking original engine on all rebuilds
