brake caliper seal groove
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:39:28 AM »
i disassembled my caliper and found a lot of buildup under the rubber seal. i tried cleaning with a plastic brush and brake cleaner but there's still plenty of white stuff there. What can i remove it with without damaging the metal? thanks in advance.

try soaking in some carb cleaner or gasoline or some other kind of good cleaning agent.

Well I used a dremel with a brass wheel. Worked real good. Brass is a soft metal so it will not gouge things.

I used a red Scotch Brite pad very gently and removed the oxidation; Brass is harder than Aluminium be careful if you use a Brass wire wheel.

The Dremel with the brass brush makes quick work of it...I then take a dental pick and get the last little bits in the corners.
Seems to work well.

Dental pic has always worked well for me.  Don't press too hard of course....
