cleaning up the triangle

Hey everybody!   I no this topic has come up in the past on other threads but i really need some help and advice on how to clean up the tangle and relocate everything under the hump. . This is on a 1976 Honda cb550f cafe ..i am using the stock writing harness because i don't no how to make a simple wiring harness or really no much about electrical systems. .i also have a damn hard time reading wiring diagrams  we all find on the internet or our manuals. . Please anybody that can help or send pics of how they have mounted their harnesses. .i am also running a regulator/rectifier from eccentric that i just got. .. thank you guys and i look forward to seeing pics Orr getting pointers!

Not done this myself but can't see how you would do it without heavily modifying the stock harness or making a bespoke one. Perhaps you could relocate the parts where you want them and then get somone else to do the wiring for you?

I had thought about that but I'm not trying to spend an arm and a leg on this bike. .i already have enough in it and funds are low. .

Ok so i read up on this m otogadget m unit but I'm confused how it works. . Can you wire up the alternator and the regulator/rectifier to it and the points and all that to this unit?

This job sounds like it is over your head since you have no skills and cannot read a wiring diagram.

Remember the frame is only 1/16 thickness so do not use a grinder on it,only a sanding disc very carefully. When the paint is gone STOP sanding!

Hey thanks guys for the information on all this. . And yay i can read but like calj737 said i just have a hard time reading wire diagrams and i am positive a lot of other guys do too but  ok tho.. grinding down tabs and sanding is the easy part its just electrical that is my kryptonite but again for the guys that did reply thank you very much for the input on this subject

it took me a lot of work to get my triangle clean, and it is, 100%! :D

I used an AGM battery as iv heard goods and bads about the lithium batteries and prefer the almost stock lead acid specs of the AGM. I removed my centre stands and made brackets so that the battery fits between the two brackets that the centre stand pivoted on. i have about 3" gap to the rear tyre, so its perfect. no problems so far. The AGM is a 1/4 of the price of the Lithiums.

iv had people trying to find my battery for several minutes already 8)

Ya. ..i like your bike that is  as hell lookin..i do have am after market seat for mine that the battery is going to sit under and its an agm battery.. you guys have been a great help thank you and again love your bike cal!

Those pods look a lot like my shorty emgo pods.

Did you cut off one of the cross braces? I am no structural engineer but without it won't your rear shocks put a lot of stress on your seat frame?

The bike does look really nice. Excellent job.

Like I said, I am no structural engineer. That just seems like one hell of a pivot point where the seat and tank meet. Sounds like you know what you're doing and compensated accordingly. Either way it looks awesome and you've got some serious balls for pulling it off.  ;D

Not exactly, but i work in maintenance at the new 205 C-class merc plant. Millwright apprentice atm :D i would hate to be a mech and do mech stuff as a hobby...dont mix business with pleasure hahaha 8) My dad has owned a 1973 280S for as long as i can remember, other cars have come and gone and she still rides as the day she rolled off the assembly line, amazing vehicles!

I am in the process of doing a '78 550 cafe.  I mounted the factory electronics in-between the frame rails above their factory location.  The side where the factory regulator mounts is toward the back and the starter solenoid faces up.  The only "rewiring" that will be needed is replacing the original positive battery cable with a longer one, and grounding the battery to the frame under the seat.  I will try to post a picture tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I am no where near done, so I cannot say what issues may arise from the way I am doing it.  Also, I need to relocate the regulator and figure out how I will mount the battery still.  The battery will be waiting for the seat.
