I bought mine for $150 and have about $300 of tears in it. Well so long for the cheap ones.

I could turn a killer profit by selling mine but then I could not taunt you guys anymore.  ;D

Just wait till winter then no one will want them in their backyard anymore... Summer always drives prices up because they can be ridden (ya ya I know some of you lucky sobs can ride year round)

I had a thread on this a while ago:

http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=10511.0

It seems the 750 has seen a massive spike in prices that I hope recede, like a wave.  There are still deals to be had in the 550s, which I think is the "undiscovered" SOHC right now.  The 400 was always a Cult Bike and commanded high prices to the Right People.

The 750 is starting to be regarded as the progenitor of all modern 4-cylinder bikes and people are snatching them up.  Also, as was hit on, many people who wanted one, but couldn't afford one (or whatever) are finally able to get one.  For example, my dad lived in NYC in the mid seventies and needed a bike to get around the city since a car was impractical.  He went into the Honda dealership to get a 750 Super Sport, but they didn't have any and wouldn't for a while.  So he rode out on a blue '76 550 Super Sport.  But he ALWAYS wanted that big 750.  So he finally found the exact bike he wanted, a '76 Candy Antares Red 750 Super Sport, and he recently bought it.

Well Cheapo, with all these Yahoos finding these bikes and parting them out for sale on ebay, it is no wonder they are rising in price. Scarce = Expensive. I am getting more positive comments as I drive around than ever before. Every crotch rocket looks like the other. The HDs and thier clones are getting so mundane and common no one notices them.  Let the prices rise!!.

Thats because you are looking at girls. Look for something hitting 25 at least. Then you will find a woman that knows a rocket is just a toy. See when they are young, they want the flash that plastic has to offer. But everyone grows up sooner or later!

These are obviously low class women of dubious virtue. They wear revealing clothing, have large perky breasts, shapely legs, firm round bottoms, pouting lips and deep blue eyes. Not the type any of us would associate with.   ::)

yet another contributing factor...

With gas as high as it's gotten, alot of people that have never ridden but perhaps always wanted to, are jumping on the bandwagon and looking for older bikes as a cheaper way to get high gas mileage.  Around here, I'm seeing alot of older bikes suddenly going for much more than I ever thought they were worth.  However I haven't seen any SOHC4's in my market (shame, I wouldn't mind a cheap local parts bike for my F2)  The last one I saw change hands besides the one I bought 4 years ago is the CB550 that a coworker just recently gave away.  (before mentioning to me, that he had one to get rid of, of course!!!)  I'd of loved to have grabbed that sucker for my daughter.

Very true about people starting to ride because of gas prices these days Orcinus.

I'm seeing lots of guys out there recently that you can kind of tell are doing just that.  They are out there every morning now on my commute on older somewhat ratty bikes wearing either a very old helmet or their motocross helmet looking just a bit uncomfortable riding in the traffic.

Got a boneyard around your house boys? I see rows of rusty, smashed, neglected and bodged sohc's. The last ones were built 28 years ago. You can fight entropy but you will ALWAYS lose. It's just the nature of nature. :'(

What do you do when you see a bike that's been setting in the same parking spot for 6 months, chain broke off and points cover removed? I put a note on it about 3 months ago and it doesn't seem to have been touched. It's a '78 CB750K. The obvious flaws is the points/points cover is missing, chain is off, and the engine has oil all over the front of it. The tank and seat are immaculate. The "dummy lights" cover is missing. It's got good tires. How would I go about finding the owner of this bike? How much would it be "worth"?

I just keep showing up at the house until the give in. With in reason. Stalk'em till it hurts. Start out witha simple question about if he wants to GET RID OF IT. This may result in a free bike ( I got a 1980 GS550E yesterday for free). If the motor turns. Then I would start at $50 because it is obviously neglected. Like they care. Make sure to tell him how ugly it is and all the things wrong with it. Use the word Geese alot while looking at the goofed up stuff. Just enough where he can hear it but dont go overboard. Don't go fish when he asks higher. Come to the deal with a price tag like $150 as TOP in your head and do not go over it. Walk away, he will change his mind. With your note staying on it for so long no one appears to be interested outside of you. He will come around to his senses. Make sure you give him your number.....And stay ready to pick it up at a moments notice. I like crazy people but they change thier miind lots, so when he calls you have to be ready within 10-20 mintues to pick it up.

Learn to buy bikes the ElCheapo way  ;D If I wrote a book on this stuff I would go poor because there would be no more bikes available  ;D

While I understand your point that "all things must end" even the mighty SOHC4, Boneyards don't solve my problem.  The only Bike Boneyard that I'm aware of around here is the same place that parted out my last bike after it was stolen.  I'm afraid I'd rather dissassemble the bike and make a gigantic wind chime out of it before I'd buy so much as turn signal lens from that SOB.

I turned down a $500 (Canadian) running CB750F with a spare tank  :o  I actually rode the bike - fired right up on a cold wet morning.

Problem was it had been stored outdoors, uncovered forever.  Every spoke was rust, everything was faded.  Surface rust on every nut and bolt.

Still, ran like a champ.  Could have put new rubber on, and likely saftied it as-is.  But, I didn't need another project, no room in the garage, and I couldn't live with the bike like it was.  This was just a couple of months ago... maybe it's still there  ;D
