Restoring Neutral Light on 400F SS
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:29:12 PM »
:-\ I took my 400F to have a new start/kill switch wired in since it was too cold in my carport to do the work myself. I'm glad I did. When they got in there they found a lot of cobbled together wiring. They traced and restored most of the connections  as per the wiring diagram, but that eliminated the neutral light, although it had been working before. They never went into the case where the neutral light is situated.

The switch and wiring at the clutch to prevent starting in gear is long gone. I can live having to remember to pull in the clutch or roll the bike to be sure it's in neutral, but life would be easier  with a working neutral light. What do I need to do to make get the neutral light to turn on when the bike is in neutral, even though I don't have the clutch end of the safety switch? wiring?

Neutral gets power from a black wire in the bucket area. grounds at the case. The switch in the case is what actually grounds it and sends the juice to the light. Either now power to it, i.e. no black plugged in(likely bc it could be disturbed or missed doing that kind of work) or less likely it somehow is out of the blue having trouble grounding. Does your neutral switch leak?

Sounds like they just knocked a wire loose. It's light green with a red and , as stated before black is the (+).
trace them back , and i'm sure you'll find one isn't connected.
