How are plug wires connected in coils??
« on: March 14, 2013, 05:15:11 PM »
Are the plug wires crimped on at the coil end?    The OEM coil on my 750K2 has one wire that seems loose.  I can tug on all the wires and they seem firm, but there is one that will twist freely right at the coil as if it is not completely connected.  Its almost
like the other 3 are being held by both the conductor and the outside insulation, but the one in question is only being held in by
the conductor allowing it to twist where it goes into the coil.  Are there known problems with the wires coming loose from the coil??

Weren't you ever told that if you keep playin with it you will go blind?

There are lots of threads on the coils. the plug wires are molded to the coils from the factory and are non-replaceable. I have personally done the internal splice thing with copper core wires and it worked just fine til my coil died internally

The wire shouldn't be loose, see if you can jam it back in there and epoxy it. Check the coild ohm resistance to make sure that it isn't out of the spec or that all your playing broke some of the stranded core internally.

If you want to move on you can get cheap used ones or cheap new ones. The original type are super tough

They are molded into the coil. You can pick up coils pretty cheap from CB750 supply. I have a set and they are fine. You can by some old coils from ebay, but who says the ebay coils are not as bad as yours.

The wire is soldered to a tab and then molded as a complete assembly. *If* you have no other choice, you can always use a dremel tool and remove the area where the connection is made and replace the wire and then epoxy everything back together but it would be much easier to just replace the coil.

Many OEM coils have wires that seem a bit loose. If you can twist the wire all around, it's obvious something is wrong. If it feels just a little bit loose, I wouldn't worry too much. See if it works first.
