sandcast parts found
« on: March 16, 2013, 05:10:52 pm »
I start by saying that I am not an expert on these or any of the soc 4 bikes I am educating myself as I go on my 78k I do know what a sandcast part is as one of my early jobs was making sand moulds for tractor parts.what I have found in with parts that came with a 78 parts bike that I got last year are non finned oil filter housing sandcast.1 set early ko sidecovers and what I think is an early swingarm it has what I think are the no 8 bolts and a different spacing for mounting chain guard as it looks like someone had to elongate the rear hole on a later metal chain guard as seen on later pre 77 bikes. I am not a sandcast guy or hoarder so these parts will hopefully find their way to a bike that needs them.I would like any help in identifying the swingarm if anyone can please. thanks bill

Sounds like your on the right track with your research.1971 bikes also had a different swingarm and chainguard mount set up like the early bikes. Changed in 72. You should have enough posts now to put on pictures which are worth a thousand words. Do you have prices yet for your items?

You're right...I could dig out some other seats that are better off a vintage RD400 track bike.

The earlier swing arms are more valuable?

I would say only if you needed one for an earlier bike so you could run the proper type chainguard etc.. I do not think they perform better.

Named after the Horse?

Black beauty could refer to the drug also known as “speed” if the engine was hopped up. That would be my best guess.

hello guys thanks for your replys. the sidecovers and the swing arm are gone to another member who called tme.As for the oil filter housing I still have it.This is my offer to anyone who wants it.I may be nuts but that's okay cause I have been this way all my life and it is too late to change now.One set of jokermachine universal rearsets in my mailbox and you get the housing in your mailbox. It is just not worth my time to bother with it. If it does not go it will end up on my bike as the ultimate trick cover.many have sold for many times the amount I am asking.
