quick cb500 stator test question
« on: March 15, 2013, 01:56:40 AM »
Howdy

trying to get to the bottom of a charging problem on my cb500. fyi using new modern reg,rec solid state combo and shorai lithium iron battery.

quick question for those in the know about his. I've tested the resistance between the three yellow wires that come from the stator and that checks out fine. However when the bike is running and I test AC voltage from ground to each wire...

should they be giving even voltage (now I am getting 11 VAC from 1st and 3rd wire and almost 0 VAC from the middle one)?

The voltages do go up 1-2 volts when engine is revved to higher rpms

I've done the high charge mode trick by connecting black and white regulator wires and saw no change in voltage to battery.

thanks!!!

hallo down under

disconect the plug above the schain

the 3 yellows ; only [even ]voltage between them  not to eart
messure resistance from yello to eart this shoud be kilo ohms

field coil about 4 ohms between white and green
with disconected plug no connection to eart

mostly its the rectifeier defective

gerrit

OK I think I figured it out... pretty dumb really. The ground that comes from the regulator and blinkers was dangling free unconnected to anything!!!!

as in the circular connector that is meant to be on the frame I assume, not anything direct from the reg/rec

where does it connect to the frame? same place and battery negative ground?

also for your entertainment I screwed up some instructions to bypass my regulator and literally blew it up, it spewed smoke and spat molten sliver stuff!!! ah!!! what a doofus.

getting the smoke back inside the wire is hard.

yeah I tried to inhale it all and blow it back in through the wires...  :P
