worn cb550 rocker shafts
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:07:38 AM »
I have a 74 cb550 onto which I am putting a 78 cb550 head cover.  The rocker shafts on this new cover are very worn, so worn that I can feel a groove with my finger.  I am not sure if that is a problem or not, but it seems like it.

As far as I can tell I have 3 options:
Find new ones... which will probably take awhile.
Have them welded and ground... which will probably be expensive.
Have a notch machined on the opposite side of the shaft and mount them backwards... which seems lazy.

Any thoughts?

If you can feel a groove with your finger, they are no good.  You can have them resurfaced by companies like CycleX for a reasonable price.  Or, you could try to find better used ones.
