Kickstarter seal is a likely place to leak.

Possible. Most of this mess is from the chain being enclosed in the guard. If over the years someone removed the inspection plug and shot oil on the chain or like OS said the self oilier. The guard was a half inch thick of caked on muck.

All this gets slung up into the the case area. This is the dry side. There is no gasket on the case cover. The front sprocket sits way into the case also so this oil basically gets slung into the case. I'm going to use chain lube in the future.  ;)

I need to find me some strong drill bits as my drill index has seen better days. Lowe's?

Hooray!  :)

Off and on for three days! Only had to use an easy out on one cover screw. Man, that was a lot of time. Now it's time for three more days of cleaning parts. Front fender going in tomorrow for repair.

The entire front end removed.  :o And more cleaning!  ::)

Might as well tear the whole thing apart at this point!

What a great bike, and in such excellent shape! I saw my first Dream (a black one) just about the same time yours was built and it was just cool as heck as far as I was concerned. It was like somebody took an old Caddy and turned it into a bike! I never forgot that bike, but never saw one again until I came across your build; I guess they're pretty rare? Or maybe I just never looked hard enough...

If you find drool dripping from your computer the next time you visit your thread, it'll be coming from me!  :) ;) :D ;D

Keep the pics coming! So cool! So cool!

Well thank you Sir!

There are plenty around actually but parts are getting harder to find and OEM for the most part has been discontinued. Yes, this was a rare find having the original title. so far I have found nothing that was not stock.

This build, as all of mine seem to be, will be close to the selling price of most. Nature of the beast.

Stay tuned for more and bring on Elvis!

Looking good Toy.   That's the oddest front end I've ever seen, like a reverse swing arm.

Or a springer..on the bottom.

A lot of parts for sure. The cleaning begins. Again.

We were talking about that the other day. Two cargo trailers in white, the Tunda and the Scion.

Then casper.

Well, you are a member of the "cool 2 club"  and the one way to stay cool in AZ is to be in lighter colored vehicles and clothing.

The front end design is a leading link design.  The C70 passport used a similar setup and it is odd the first few times out with it at slow speed because when you engage the front brakes the forks rise up.  It is an anti-dive design of old...
Looks like your parts are in pretty good shape, being stored indoors has been kind to this old Honda Dream.

Not a ton of front suspension dampening but it works fine.

Elvis was on a CB or Hawk variant as the front suspension is a telescopic fork design.

Hang in there tt, the cleaning will be worth it.

We are going to have to find the guy in white leathers from the UK auto show or Sam come visit for a photo-op... ;D

The leading link is now clean and somewhat assembled. There are felt washers on the rear portion that were long gone thus the heavy layer of build up that took forever to clean.

I took the whole piece over to the auto store and we fitted O rings that should keep the grease where it belongs.

Right cover almost done. Have to remove the kick shaft. Pretty sure the side cases will need painting. Have a can of paint that is factory matched from Marble Motors.  ;)

tt...........if all else fails on the front fender repair............the trick is to locate a cheap fender with a good bottom and butt-weld it to the good front on yours.  The place to cut the fenders is at the fork to take advantage of the gasket to hide any imperfections.

The oil seals are all common sizes (hardware store) except the crank-seal behind the dyno.

If you paint the fender it won't match the patina on the rest of the bike.

Does it really look that bad?  Have you cleaned it up yet?

OS, I have a question. Actually a couple. It appears you just pull out the kick starter shaft seal and slide a new one in. Pretty straight forward.

On the front sprocket the teeth look good but there is play "in and out" but no play "front to back". Normal?

Thanks.

I'm just using gray primer on the repaired areas. I left explicit instructions to not paint the entire fender. I have no choice really as the damage takes away from the rest of the bike.

The more I go the deeper it gets. I have this bike down to almost nothing. Part trays everywhere!  ::)

The steering stem needs removed now. Pretty dry in there. No play but does need repacked or replaced. Might as well do it then concentrate on the front end work.

I have done quite a few Honda facelifts but one thing is for sure. The older they are the more work they become.

So, carburetor is out for rebuild, parts on order from three suppliers, box of parts arrived yesterday, some OEM parts off a donor bike shipping from Maryland, new parts from California, fender in for repair and the seat goes in next week. Trays and boxes of cleaned parts as well as parts to be cleaned. Petcock, front fork assembly, rear wheel, front wheel ,chain all to be cleaned. Still shopping for brake shoes and exhaust and a donor rear wheel for spokes.

I need a nap!  :D Better yet a break for a few days.
