If you keep poking around Ebay you will eventually find a suitable fender that would have the right "character" to match the rest of the build. Then maybe you could sell the fender you have to recoup a few dollars.

On the other hand, if the bottom portion of the fender is the only problem, is there some way that you could get creative with some black paint and maybe paint the damaged area only? I'm not sure how to explain what I'm thinking but maybe you could create the illusion of a mud flap or fender skirt.

This bike is a real jewel and I love the direction you're going with it.

Even from your pictures, I don't think that fender is so bad that a few body-repair dollies and a mallet couldn't resolve in the hands of a half-ways competent panel beater. There should be a small inner mudguard held in place along the lower edge by those bolts on either side that you would want to remove first before beating the fender bottom back into shape. Then match the paint and touch-up only the scarred area.

I agree. Spend your time and money cleaning her up and replacing the cables, gaskets, seals, and rubber bits that you will need to get this thing riding and running perfectly. You have plenty of time to decide whether or not you can live with the original fender.

My current project is a CB500 that was too far gone to do just a cleaning and reassembly but for my next project I plan to take my time and find something suitable for that type of project. Your 305 was a perfect candidate.

I'm having one he!! Of a time getting the steering stem off. My Lord! I assume it's counter clockwise. I'll add more heat!

tt.........when in gear, the sprocket should rock a quarter to a half-tooth from full forward to back and have very little side play. If no go.......check the primary chain and clutch-wheel. The rocking distance is just like any other chain-drive primary with proper slack.

I have never taken the neck down on a CA77...........but I know others that have and always report problems.....my brother-in-law broke the pipe with an extension on the wrench.

I think it is fine on inspection. Now, the steering stem nut is another matter. Talked with a few folks and they agree with you. Tough! Very fine thread. I'm getting it hot then cool and blast with WD40. I'm going to do this again tonight then first thing in the morning. I'll have to get some help holding the bike in place as I don't want it to fall over.

I placed another $200+ order today from Ohio Cycle. Found brake shoes, rear sprocket, tank rubber, air cleaner and most importantly, they had the felt seals for the front pivot bolts.

Thanks to Greggo on that.

wd40, really...wire dryer 40 doesn't penetrate much or even lube very well.
How about pulling out the PB Blaster or Kroil or Liquid Wrench Penetrating oils?

Nice fine on the Ohio Cycles site.
Put some lashing straps on the frame to suspend it from the ceiling joists to prevent it from falling when messing with the steering head, etc.

Got it!

Stubborn little guy. Wow!

Heat, 4 pound dead blow hammer and a huge 1 1/8 inch wrench. I'll start cleaning again since it will be 2 weeks on another part order. Still have the front fork shroud, front and rear brakes, front rim and tire, sprocket drive and all the nuts and bolts that go with it.

When everything arrives I'll start at the front and work back. Everything will be clean and ready for assembly. If I find everything that is.

Today we made a little progress on assembly. Most of the morning was on the front fork area. The grease in the bearings was almost nonexistent. Dry as a popcorn fart!

I lost a little time as a few bearings stuck in the neck and before I could remove the tree I had to fish them out. Fun stuff!

A few scattered bearings had to be hunted down but all accounted for.

More cleaning and partial assembly. Waiting on parts to finish the front end then start my way back.

It's going to be a few weeks waiting on three different part orders but my goal is to have everything clean and ready for assembly. Should go quickly after that.

Fender in the shop and now the seat.

Tomorrow will be cleaning up the handlebars, solder a few areas, install the headlight.

Glad I could help TT! It's a little tedious to finalize an order, but that guy has so many good parts it's amazing. If you talk to him on the phone, he has many other parts that aren't even listed. I was able to find the carburetor covers for my CA95 from him, and I had looked for over a year.

Yeah, $230.00 on first order. Probably going to buy tires from him down the road. I'm trying to find a donor rear wheel for a half dozen spokes. I need to figure out if they are the A or B spokes.

I worked all my life to get to this point Steve. You'll get there.

It's nice to be going the other way for a change. Still have a lot to clean however. That paint I bought from Marble Motors is just fantastic! I touched up the top handlebar brackets. Amazing.

Cleaning up the bars today. Pictures to come.

Finished up the handlebars this morning. Shopping for a stock bar so this all might have been for nought.

First was the mess. Yup. More cleaning.

Wanted to solder some wires that were exposed.

After parts cleaning.

Them assembly.

Then installed. The ferrules on the bars do not match up to the top clamp mount. It will work for now.

And the top clamp with all the steering damper parts cleaned. Cleaned and fresh grease in the stem.

And to get an idea where I am going.

Headlight case waxed and mounted. Enough for today. I'm ordering pizza and drinking ice cold beer the rest of the day.

That blue is the same as my CA95... The frame color... Ugly seat, never liked the red seat on blue bike...
