550 F vs K frame / engine bolt question
« on: March 18, 2013, 05:07:32 PM »
So I'm trying to put 400F "rearset" pegs on my 550F. The left side peg mounts up fine through the rear engine mounting bolt. However, my right side peg cannot mount through the same bolt because it's not long enough. I know people are able to do this on K model 550s without that problem.

Is the rear engine mounting (hanger) bolt longer on the K models? Or are they the same length, the 550F frame is just wider at that point? The parts numbers are different for these bolts so I'm assuming there's a difference between the two

If it was longer in the K models, I'm assuming I could use one in and it would be long enough to mount both pegs?

K's used a rod threaded with nuts both ends and must be a little longer.

While we're on the topic of the difference between the 550 K and F frames...

does anybody know if bolt on rearsets designed for the 500/550 K models (such as: http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-112/Rearsets--Fixed-Rubber/Detail) will work on a 550 F model?

They kind of work. Everything bolts up and fits except the back of the bracket. It's not long enough to reach the passenger peg holes.

Not sure if I described that right.

I beleive that the F r/h footrest bolts to a different mount welded to the frame rather than the engine mounting bolt, hence the shorter bolt, a k type bolt should do the trick.

I emailed the guy at Fast From the Past. He said that someone has bought a set in the past to put on a 550F and they did not fit. I'm sure with modification they could but if I'm paying $300 for rearsets I don't want to have to modify them. I'm going to get a 550K engine mount and report back if it works for the 400F footpegs
