We've cleaned up the brakes and hubs for the wheels...


Did I mention I love cleaning these up!?


and everything got a good cleaning...




I think we finished cleaning these up last week (it was recently at any rate...)

Tried making a bracket for the ignition. Since it's not the original ignition (in fact other then being Honda we have no idea what it's from) I figured we could hide it. It's rather ugly and missing parts. So I got the brilliant idea we could hide it behind the carbs off the battery box. It was a cool idea....


I






Unfortunately once I put the carbs in it became absolutely inaccessible. It turned out neat but it's a no go. It will have to go up with the gauges. I will have to figure out how to make some sort of sealed in holder up there for it.  Decided to take a break from it for a few days just because I'm frustrated.

Realized that I ordered the wrong rear spokes from Buchanan's. I ordered 18 and needed 17. The 17's they have to custom make! It's ordered and will be about a week and a half.

The one redeeming thing today was buying a switch and housing for the left from another member. Rough couple of days man.... sold my only non-motorcycle today for parts. Too much snow to put the Kawasaki back on the road yet. Just frustrated. UGH. Going to work on stripping my tank of it's paint tomorrow. Hopefully that actually goes well.

Oh and just to avoid confusion. BF is a motorcycle mechanic. Many of the pics are taken at the shop cause I don't have the tools we need.

It seems so slow to me goldarrow. :) I started on this last July! Mind you I didn't really start working on it regularly until this February. I'm hoping we will have it ready to go within the next few weeks.

It is great to have friends helping. :) I'm a very spoiled builder. Not only do I get the help of my bf and the motorcycle shop to use, but all the staff at the shop help and encourage me every step of the way. I've also made some amazing freinds through the shop that love to chop, cafe and custom their bikes... it's a good life even when I'm ripping my hair out! LOL  ;D

None of these are in any particular order. Most of the work has been done over the winter...

Cut the rear fender right down..


Was hand filling it...


Made a left side cover out of a steel sheet... this was my template


This is my led light bracket I designed...


Adjusted valve clearances and tightened cam chain (so fun to learn how to do)


Before scrubbing it clean...


After :)


and the whole thing now...


Scrubbed the engine and stripped the paint off...








lots more to come to catch up to where I am!

Pulled apart the carbs and cleaned them. I'm actually really good at this. My carbs on my kawasaki 440 I had to tear apart about 30 times before replacing them. LOL









Stripped the tank badges of their horrid looking paint...


Haven't decided if I'm going to paint them or just clean them up as is...

Got the seat pan cut down exactly as I want it this time..




A rough idea of what I'm thinking of...


A good buddy of ours builds seats so we sat down with him and began the learning lesson...

Basic starting supplies






Trimmed the pan so it won't cut the material...


Started cutting and gluing,




This is where it's at right now.. we are waiting to get the bike up on wheels and the tank done to finish to make sure we have it at the right height and length...


and right now it's sitting under these weights to help it stick...


Hopefully we will get to finish the seat in the next week and a half or so!

Just some random stuff here...

Got my rims powder coated... the colour is almost a John Deere tractor green. It doesn't show up in these pictures well... the tank will match the rims

Tried the vinegar method for cleaning the bolts, not too bad but mine were beyond rusty...




and my led light bracket, painted and with the lights in... :)


I think I might be caught up! I need to take more pictures though as my fenders and side cover are painted...

This is  photo of my odd ball ignition... it's a fine thread metric.. quite large (I can measure it at the shop if need be)


Any ideas on where to find a nut that fits it? We've checked out every skeleton bike we could access, looked at the local parts shop, our bike shop and nothing...

So last night we started on stripping the tank. The lid went well. LOL We still have more work to do on the tank but it's still a bit chilly out in the evening so we will do it this weekend I hope.









Also cleaned up the badges, I think I'm going to leave them as is.. all scruffy


and sonic cleaned the oil lines...


Not bad for an hour of work... hopefully get to be able to actually paint the tank this weekend!

The exact same stuff. A paint gasket remover. Don't recall the brand. Theres a can in one of the pictures. It works pretty good.

Little tip for cleaning up the rest of that tank, put some more stripper on it , put on some gloves and use stainless steel wool to removed the small crappy bits by rubbing it all off, works a treat and leaves the metal nice and clean and shiny....  This method works great on frames as well... ;)

This is a really entertaining build . What I like in particular  (and this isn't meant in any way as a derogatory comment) is the use of basic "hands on" mechanical/ fabricating skills . I'll be keeping an eye on this one . 8) 8)

So...we live in the same city, we know a lot of the same people and we've even ridden together a few times, but I have to come on an internet forum to actually get an update on your build? I see Scottie all the time but all I get out of him is "it's coming along". lol. :p

Just kidding Becca, the build looks great! Are you guys working down at the shop this weekend? I'll try to stop by if you are. I have a NEED to be surrounded by motorcycles and motorcycle people. :P
