Harness wrapping
« on: March 18, 2013, 08:59:27 AM »
I took all the wrapping of a wire harness, checked wires and replace one green wire since the insulation was somewhat compromised.

Anyway, what do you use for harness wrapping?  Just regular, quality electrical tape? I don't care for vintage/original look, all I want is protection.

Thanks

ick...   electrical tape leaves gummy sticky black goo all over yer wires. Use plumbing emergency tape. Look for it in theplumbing dept. Stretches, and sticks to itself. Excellent for harness wrap.

Use plumbing emergency tape.

+1 plumbers tape works great and won't dry out, break down or gum up like standard electrical tape.

It is also called silicone tape. http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100206050?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&N=5yc1vZ1xhmZarpz&R=100206050#.UUexwjckTKc

Do a Google search, you may find a better source.

I'm wrapping mine in silicone tape and then using a nice polyester sleeve to keep it nice and clean.

You can also use small tie wraps and split flexible wire loom.  This makes it really easy to get at wires again in the future.

That's what I did-makes it real nice when you have to access it again (and again...and again...and again...) trying to track down electrical problems (and I definitely know this from first hand experience.. .  .ugh.....lol)

Thank you!

I took old wrapping off and went over it with ohmmeter to make sure it is safe to wrap it again - but the future will tell  ;D
