My wife rides a 81 CB 400N and it runs 160Kmh anytime, someone mentioned these bikes being only capable of speeds around 120?

Two versions of the engine are out there, 27hp and 43hp and the only difference is the cam.

My '79 will run 75mph (120kph) all day long. In fact, I made a 4-hour trip at that speed a couple of weekends ago. It didn't get that great of mileage at that speed, but it did it. ;)

I made the original comment about my wifes cb400t, let me clarify. It will do 120km all day, but its topped out give or take 5-10km. If She's in a tuck going down hill it'll hit 130 maybe, if she has to pass or get out of dodge it aint happening. I just dont think going through all the work the OP did for a 400cc twin is worth it and I fully appreciate the work that went into it, he did a great job.

My point exactly, you sure it's not the restricted version? 27 vs 43hp makes a big difference, believe me, my wifes bike had the restricted cam when we bought it and I replaced the cam with the 43hp one years ago.

No clue about the cam, maybe europe had different options than north america did for all I know. It's a great little bike non the less, but more of an in city rider. I picked up a cb650 for her which will be more of a highway-long trip bike for her.

How does it sound? I ran straight pipes for exactly one ride on my '79 CM400 and it was louder than any Harley I have ever heard... So much so that I couldn't ride for more than 10 minutes with earplugs and a helmet without getting a headache...
