Well if you’re not in a real hurry, I may be able to build you one. I have some 750 frames & motor cases I could use as a mock up.

I haven't seen that bike you posted but I do recall selling a set of GL rotors that were intended to be mounted to a 750; they do look sweet on there!  = ]

BTW; I just noticed your from Eldorado Hills. I spent Christmas out there visiting with My sister!

Thanks Godffery,

I appreciate the offer on the tank.  I need to get my engine back in soon so I can mock up a tank.  I can likely put the design on paper and/or make the parts to assemble.  Undecided on aluminum or steel, but steel seems like it would be the most cost effective way to go.  Either way I'll be in touch as this part of the build develops.  I do know I want to use bungs suitable to run AN fittings.  Stay well back there. Hear you maybe getting clobbered with snow and cold again.  Got the tank mount all worked out as well as the Battery box, something of a inside fender and an accessory pan.

Yup, we have been getting snow just about every day for the past week or so and the temps started dropping sharply since Monday. At least it makes for great Ice riding! http://www.vinmoto.org/gallery/v/VinMoto-Events-Pictures/MilVin-Events/Studs+on+Ice/

:) well guys January has come and gone, which means 1 more month down and closer to summer.  So I'm energized to keep up the pace on the build.  I finally came to terms with the seat mounts and figured out how I can swap out the Manx tank for the Stock Tank if one wants to travel outside the county.  In my last post I showed the accessory pan and have decided to cut the depth.  As the Manx tank cant fit over the frame rails but sits on top of them I had to raise the seat to keep the lines.  If you look in the last post notice the screw in the back of the tank.  In this post you can see the bracket it screws into to keep the Manx tank sliding back and out of the pucks.  I also fabed another aluminum bracket for the rear of the tank to sit on to take the weight off the screw through the fiberglass.  As you can see that piece fits under the tabs for the stock rubber tank mount.  Here's the trick, when you want to use the larger tank, remove this piece, put the stock rubber mount in, turn the Alum piece around and using the same screw affix it to the frame further back.  This allows the stock tank to sit on the rubber and piece keeps this tank from moving back.  Wa La!  Now when I build the padded seat pan I will allow for the front to come up a little on the Manx tank and a moveable piece in the upholstery will sit nicely on the bracket for the stock tank to help support the piece.

I had some extra aluminum so made a new bulkhead in place of the wooden bulkhead for the tail light.

I have also cut out a 1" x 14" x 5/16" piece to construct a new rear brake bar fix.

Lastly have begun to disassemble parts in order to get to just the frame to remount the engine to do the last mock up before paint.  This will enable me to make sure EVERYTHING fits before the last teardown.

I swear I will ride this beast this summer!@!!!!  ;D

Doing some more polishing on aluminum. Lighten the brake bar, some of the holes are not in alignment, no drill press just hand tools.  only 5 more levels of buffing to go! Hey I noticed you like my light? LOL  Took a look at the K2 build, sweet and noticed your ride map.  I used to have a RC Soaring buddy that lived in San Clemente.  Went down to visit him once, he had given me the wrong directions for last exit in San Clemente.  It was nighttime so as I was trying to figure out where to turn I start seeing road signs, Yellow Diamonds with figures in black of a women and kids fleeing across the roadway????? Soon after I saw lots of lights in the distance which turned out to be a entry control point for traffic going North.  Anyway the new build looks to be show stopper!  Who can tell me how on this site the "subscribe" thing works????

The polishing looks good.  Wow, you used a Truck Lite, too?  I either missed that or it got stuck in my subconscious mind.  Oh yes, the crossing immigrant family sign on the 5 FWY between San Clemente and Las Pulgas -- I've seen that countless times (in fact, my friends and I plotted at stealing it, but it's too damn big).

thanks Hot Shot!  Senior moment on that one.  Quick post on last nights buffing, remade my electrics pan under the seat, cut the depth in half. Cleaned up the shop some and redid my pegboard tools management board.  Well buffing stage 1&2 complete, just 4 more to go! Pray for me!

Nice garage shop.  Very tidy!!  I think the shallower pan will help hide everything inside the depth of the frame rail.

WoW What a day! Finished up the last major batch of buffing stuff, mostly the fabed parts under the seat, brake bar and the oil cooler.  Then I finished stripping everything off the frame except swing arm and shocks to facilitate installing the engine. Need to receive my Cognito Moto rear sets bracket and install the exhaust to make sure everything fits and clears.  Then take it all apart again for the welder to finish up the Gorden Kit then off to powder for the frame, swing arm and exhaust.  Then the last major hurtle, putting the metal look paint on the fiberglass parts? Then maybe, just maybe this sucker will get put all together before good weather returns.  Hot Shot, I took a gander at your builds, going great I say! I thought I was a masticus for doing this project but You and Racer Fan doing two at once?  I don't know I would live long enough to ride them.  LOL  Have a great weekend guys!

Fantastic, fastidious work as always, Greg. It looks like you are close to sending parts off to be powdercoated.

Well I have torn down the bike again to get the engine in, lifted up with an engine hoist to remove the stand it was on.  Then tipped it to the right side on a piano dolly with lots of padding.  I had taken most of the chrome work off the engine. With the Frame, swing arm and shocks I picked it up and carefully placed it around the engine.  Installed some of the engine mounts then took the engine hoist rigged to just behind the neck to raise it up.  Eventually got the rear stand to keep it steady and found the original kickstand works great with the 2" drop.  The Nice chrome one was to long and as yet unable to figure how to modify it without making a mess of it.  I think I will chop some of the extras on the stock stand and powder coat it the same as the frame and sell the nice one.  Then I began to reinstall everything to fit all the bits and pieces.  Saw the Cycle X 4-2-1 actually on the bike.  Got really excited at the look.  Will need to rig a hanger down at the muffler connection but don't expect any issues with it.  When its right it tucks up to the frame nicely.  I still have to receive my Cognito Moto rear set brackets so I make sure everything works with the exhaust.  I hold my breath!  As you see I was actually able to roll her out side for some quick picks.  The coil placements are giving me fits but I will get it.

Greg,

The bike looks tough with the motor in. It has a good stance. Are you planning on powdercoating or painting the frame?

Really nice so far. Lesters are my thing. They feel like Torque Thrust wheels on a muscle car. I love the silver too since so many people keep them black.

Im hoping to powder coat, I'm studying up on brain surgery to fund it. I'm thinking of sort of a titanium look at the moment. The tank and seat I will attempt to do myself. I hope to give it a polished metal look. Meanwhile I need to get my forks back off to lower by cutting the springs/and spacer. Right now I have them pushed up through the triple trees but found an issue with the brake line clearance. Slikwili, yes the black hides a lot but naked is naked. Check out your build, going good, what size AN are you using? 6? Sounds like you have an aviation background?

Im hoping to powder coat, I'm studying up on brain surgery to fund it. I'm thinking of sort of a titanium look at the moment. The tank and seat I will attempt to do myself. I hope to give it a polished metal look. Meanwhile I need to get my forks back off to lower by cutting the springs/and spacer. Right now I have them pushed up through the triple trees but found an issue with the brake line clearance. Slikwili, yes the black hides a lot but naked is naked. Check out your build, going good, what size AN are you using? 6? Sounds like you have an aviation background?

Greg,

Just my $0.02, but have you considered having your wheels powdercoated clear, now that you have them so nicely polished?  It would provide a great barrier to oxidation and provide easier clean up (just spray with Simple Green and wipe) versus having to periodically polish them again.  Something to think about when you break down the bike for final finishes.

Yes I thought of that but sooner or later the clear coat gets chips and or discolors.  I also don't like the loss of brilliance.  I used to have a 1959 26' Owens Flag Ship Cabin cruiser on the delta up here, all mahogany and lots of brass.  I used to cover the fittings with clear acrylic due to the water environment. That meant however every Spring I would bring the fittings home for a soak in acetone then re polish and clear coat again.  I now use a good wax, couple of coats will last at least a year, then if I do need a re polish it is much less demanding.  Those parts of the Lesters that are not polish are a bear to strip off anything.  Cant begin to tell you how many times and hours it took just to strip them down.  I would also not have to de mount the tires to strip them again. That's just my spin on it.  Its still a viable idea that many use.

This is not photo shopped. It happened in early 1990 in the Persian Gulf, while U.S. carriers and B-52s were holding joint exercises. Two B-52s called the carrier (USS Ranger) and asked if they could do a fly-by, and the carrier air controller said yes. When the B-52s reported they were 9 kilometers out, the carrier controller said he didn't see them. The B-52s told the carrier folks to look down. The paint job on the B-52 made it hard to see from above, but as it got closer, the sailors could make it out, and the water the B-52 jets were causing to spray out. It's very, very rare for a USAF aircraft to do a fly-by below the flight deck of a carrier. But B-52s had been practicing low level flights for years, to come in under Soviet radar. In this case, the B-52 pilots asked the carrier controller if they would like the bombers come around again. The carrier guys said yes, and a lot more sailors had their cameras out this time

Tsunami, I went with -10AN fittings since that is about the size of the stock lines from the tank. Since my oil cooler system will take the full flow of oil from the motor and not just some of the flow like the oil filter sandwich plate, I wanted to have lines large enough for the job. It was a choice between -8 and -10. As to my background, I actually do data analytics and am more of a tinkerer and thinker than anything else. I really enjoy fresh ideas and love trying different things, hence my build looking the way it does.

Great job on the battery box. It works well with the scorpion tail seat.

I love the bike pictures, but I'm blown away by the picture of the BUFF flying below the carrier flight deck. Holy crap that's low for a beast like that. My second cousin flies the BONE B-1 for Uncle Sam and the do some low level. I wonder if they go that low. I can imagine the tail gunner had an awesome view of the water.
How did you like the ma deuce?

Sadly Don the last aerial gunner mission on a Bomber was flown on October 1, 1991 from Castle AFB (my station) by a B-52G of the 93rd Bomb Wing, fireout was 100%. (over Lake Superior no less)  The guns were placed in the Castle AFB Air Museum. End of an Era!  If your every up 99 Atwater/Merced way go to the museum its a very good one. Firing one Ma Duce is memorable, firing all four at once will rock your sole.

During Operation Desert Storm, B-52s flew about 1,620 sorties, and delivered 40% of the weapons dropped by coalition forces.[3]

During the conflict, several claims of Iraqi air-to-air successes were made, including an Iraqi pilot, Khudai Hijab, who allegedly fired a Vympel R-27R missile from his MIG-29 and damaged a B-52G on the opening night of the Gulf War.[188] However, the U.S. Air Force disputes this claim, stating the bomber was actually hit by friendly fire, an AGM-88 High-speed, Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) that homed on the fire-control radar of the B-52's tail gun; the jet was subsequently renamed In HARM's Way.[189] Shortly following this incident, General George Lee Butler announced that the gunner position on B-52 crews would be eliminated, and the gun turrets permanently deactivated, commencing on 1 October 1991.

Sorry for getting off subject, got a little sentimental there.
