CB750K4 Fork Oil Capacity
« on: July 22, 2006, 09:54:53 AM »
Greetings,

The tech spec section indicates the fork oil capacity is 7.5-7.6oz dry and 5.3-5.4oz for draining and refill. However a post in the FAQ section says 5.3-5.4oz dry and 4.6-4.7 for draining and refill. The manual I have shows a different capacity then either of these. Which is the right one?

Thanks,
Dennis

If you have the owners' manual for the bike, go with that.

My Clymer's says 6.0-6.5oz on K3 and later for a refill. My owner's manual on a 77 F2 says 4.9 for a refill. If you can't get a definitive answer try 5oz and adjusted till you get it right.

Thanks. I split the difference (5oz of ATF type F) and it seems to be ok.

Since I bought the bike in May the right fork seal has leaked...just moving it around in the garage would cause substantial dripping. When I drained the left fork, what came out looked like milk with a little chocolate mixed with it, smelled awful too. The right fork (the leaking one) had what appeared to be motor oil, and quite a bit more drained out of it than the left one. I guess the previous owner(?) who didn't consult this group on how to adjust carburetors to compensate for low restriction mufflers didn't check on how to do fork oil either!  ;D

Anyway I also replaced the 32 year old OEM front tire and took it out on the highway for the first time. I rode about a hundred miles or so, and except for a little stretch of rough pavement (maybe just a tad bouncy) it did just fine. And so that fork seal hasn't leaked either.
