newbie here checking in
« on: July 26, 2006, 08:01:18 AM »
just wanted to introduce myself.  i recently picked up a red headed stepchild, a 78 cb750k.  it is in great condition, all original except for the NOS pipes that rusted through.  paint is in excellent condition chrome still shines bright, starts right up, runs like a champ, and has about 13500 original miles.  it had been a one owner bike that was well cared for.  he just rebuilt the carbs, checked the valves, and gave her some fresh oil before handing her over to me.  pics will follow shortly.

although i hate to bastardize the bike, i plan on picking up another tank, another seat to shape into a cafe, some raask rearsets, adjustable clubmans, 4 into 1 pipes and some fork gaiters for now.  that way i can always go back to stock if need be.

anyway been reading through the FAQ's and older post and must say this is a great forum.  This is my first SOHC and i own a 04 Triumph Thruxton as well.

Hey I got the 78k and I wouldnt have it any other way. I think it is the best looking of the sohc4s.

Good luck with your cafe job. let me know if you want to ever get rid on the seat!

Congrats on the bike, if any model SOHC needs bastardization it is the 78K!

Eldar, I just got rid of a whole bike, before I recently joined the forum, I may be able to locate a seat pan if you need one.

freak,
i have done a bit of customization to my bike as well - if you are carefull and keep your stock parts there is a lot you can do to change the appearance of the bike without losing the ability to take it back to stock...

good luck and welcome,
junkie out...

The Truxton is a nice bike. Is it like this one we saw at Boxhill the other day?

As for the K8, well we all know that the first REAL SOHC (after Honda had experimented for a couple of years with the 750) was the 500/4 !!

I'm thinking this hallucination was brought on by exposure to excessive heat.  ;D

thanks for the welcome

cbjunkie, yeah, i am trying to maintain all the original parts so i can swap it back to original if i wanted to.

SteveD, my thrux is like the one you posted

eldar, yes the 78 750 is a fine looking machine.  that is why i am trying to keep all the things i am swapping out in its current condition.

been reading through this great forum, lots of information.  i'm going to have to tackle the heavy throttle situation.  i took it out for a 90 miles ride and damn my right hand was sore.  kept having to reposition to hold the throttle open.

Welcome to the board. ;D

Some people keep their stock parts in-case they want to return to "stock trim.
I sell whatever I can remove from my bike to "fund" other items for the scoot.
To each his own - just keep it fun / safe / and rideable.....
