Heres the story on the bell.I don't know if its an American thing or a Harley thing or what but when I lived in Wyoming last year, alot of people had them on their bikes and said they were for good luck. Now I'm in California and my old high school buddy bought me one for my bike. He just bought a new Heritage Softail and went to a place called Just Leather in San Jose, Calif. to spend $500.00 for ajacket and chaps. They told him about "THE BELL" and said you can't buy your own but you buy one for someone else as a gift and someone else gives you yours. So he Buys me one and here is the written instructions that came with it............. A CHARM FOR ALL CRUISIN'----Combat the evil roar spirits--------------------Have you noticed that small bell on some people's bikes and wondered why it was there? It's more than just a decoration---it has a specific function. As we all know, life has many mysteries that have no apparent solutions. One is of these Evil Road Spirits. They are the little gremlins that live on your bike. They love to ride. They're also responsible for most of our bikes problems. Sometime your turn signals refuse to work , or the battery goes dead, the clutch needs adjustment, or any of several hundred things go wrong. Evil Road Spirits causes these problems (THE HARLEY GODS CAN'T HELP IN THIS SITUATION.) Road Spirits can't live in the presence of a bell. They get trapped in the hollow of the bell. Among other things, their hearing is supersensitive. The constant ringing of the bell and the confined space drives them insane. They lose their grip and eventually fall to the roadway. (Have you ever wondered how potholes were formed?) The bell has served its purpose. (No it will not make you a better rider. PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE.) If you have picked up a bell of your own,the magic will work. But if your bell was given to you,the power has been doubled, and you know that somewhere you have a special friend helping to look after you. The bell doesn't have to be fancy, and size is insignicant. In most cases the bells are usually brass or silver, the cost about the price of a beer. When placing it on your bike, the closer to the ground the better.(Don't give those little critters a chance to get aboard.) So if you have a friend that doesn't have a bell, why not be the person to give him one? It's a nice feeling for the recipient to know you persnally care. The bell, plus a good preventive maintainance program by the bike's owner, will eliminate the Evil Road Spirits. Some of you may be skeptical,so allow me to relate to a story. Two friends were having coffee. Noticing a small polished stone on a gold chain around his friend's neck, the first fellow asked, pointing to the amulet,Why the stone? "It keeps tigers away,"answered his friend. .........So there you have it......The guy that sells these bells is probably saving up to buy himself one bad ass bike but what the hell?.... I now have one and it hangs on the bracket that sets below the horn.(The one that routes the tach cable from the front wheel to the motor.) its not real low but it was a good place to go. Now I'm searching for a whistle so I'll have the bells &whistles!
