Well boys, I am dumpster diving again. My scrap guy now has 2 drill presses a bunch of lathe bits, about 8 of those small arbor presses, 4 autodrip coolant buckets with pumps...shrink wrap machine....etc. he says I can take whatever I want. I have no space for anything else! As he was showing me the stuff I saw a zip lock bag in the dumpster, picked it up ad it had 5 brand new 1/4" reamers. Also there are a ton of old machine manuals and blueprints.....crap.

Got my lathe!

It was tough getting it out...but worth it. Came with tons of tooling ad extras.

The bed is going to be an easy cleanup. The thing in the box is a tool post grinder. I had never even heard of one before. There must be 20lbs of the square tool steel for lathe bits.  I got a grey tool cabinet with it as well, had hole punches that.....I will take pics. Also. Two NOS old shop glasses in the box. Look at those frigging things. Love it.

It's either 115V or 230, depending on how the jumpers are arranged.
I have a Dumore tool post grinder; mine might be a bit older?

If that is a dumore grinder, it could be worth near what the lathe is.  Nice gasket punch..

Holy cow 754! I just looked on eBay. $200-$1200. I have no idea if I will ever use it. Can it be used to sharpen end mills?

Yours is same as mine size wise. I think the countershaft goes behind the spindle ? Or up above ites your have power feeds , looks like it does not have both feeds.

Yeah, I was just putting it back together as it was when moved. I noticed the countershaft is mounted on a torch cut plate....I looked for some pictures of other mounting setups. This is pretty hairy. No cover for the gears either. Do you have any pics? I need to sort out the moldy motor before I really get to play.

Take about 18 hours to get pics up..just search SB9 online images. If countershaft was above it may not use gear covers.. Or maybe they are in the stuff..

You should dig all that stuff out. Arbor presses are handy as heck. We needed one and had to buy a lot of 5 at auction, and all were spoken for within a week.

So I wired up the motor according to the 115 wiring diagram and it only spins one way. Wtf? How can I mess around and get it forward and reverse.?

That worked to get it spinning in the direction I want. Still no forward reverse though. I don't really care right now. Just glad to have to spinning and cutting. I have to give the chuck a little headstart push before flipping on the motor, if not the belt just spins spins. Is that a normal action for this old lathe?

I doubt if its normal, maybe put some belt dressing on it or a splash of coke.

You should be able to use a double-pole, double-throw switch to handle the direction change I think?
If you have to give the chuck a spin to get it going, the belt is slipping too much to take a real cut. Try cleaning the pulleys and inside of the belt with brake cleaner, then after it has dried, apply some belt dressing like fiddy mentioned. The dressing may need to dry out some before it gets tacky. Is the belt tensioned only by the weight of the motor? If so, make sure the motor is free to swing beyond the travel limited by the belt.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
