Very cool. My only problem with the digital readout is the fact it reads to the ".00001 and with a well used 53 year old machine; my leads crews must have a 1/4 turn of backlash....so hitting dead nuts (even though it is so small) is a funny challenge

Its not a monster, its on the small side. If it were a bike, it would be a 175.

Very , very useful machine, easy to build stuff like say a set of triple trees.

Just simple stuff so far. I have made couple gasket molds, an acrylic case for my daughters stone collection, a jig for bottle cutting. I am spoiled with having the 3 axis CNC at work, so when I am at home it is like learning how to do something that I already sort of know how to do...but now have to do by hand. Hard. I find myself starting stuff on my mill then just giving up and then drawing it out for CNC. I am sorry.

Hey have you ever caught tubalcain's youtube channel?  This guy knows a ton about all these old machines.  I bet he'd get all jiggity for that Russian one strynboen showed us.

BTW Strynboen, you seem like you know what you're talking about, from what I read.  You should use a google translator to English, that way we can understand you better.   Honestly I'd like to know about that cool Russian job too.  It looks like it could've been in Chernobyl's machine shop.

About a week ago, my buddy's widow asked if I was interested in his Bridgeport. She offered it to me for a very reasonable price. Then today, she agreed to sell my his TIG welder, again for a very reasonable price! After that, his stepson let me go through one of his toolboxes, and he let me have all the stuff he knew he would never use. (He has no ambitions to be a machinist or mechanic.) There is still a lot of stuff to sort through, but I've already gotten a bunch of pullers, large drill bits, inside mics, a dial indicator, precision scales, 3 different size hones, and I don't recall what else. There's a lot more stuff Henry used as a jig and fixture maker that I will likely end up with...

That is a great way to keep him around. The mill I've got came from a pattern making shop. The owner had passed away 8 years ago. No family. None of the guys in the current shop knew how to use the tools. I made an offer for it all.
Now I'm my basement I have the mill and the guys Gerstner machinist box with all of his tools and personal stuff. Even his union cards from the 50's. Anyway, I keep it just as he left it. I borrow tools from him all the time but am always sure to put them back. " Do you have an 82° countersink John?"...then I rifle through the drawers until I find it. I never knew this guy and its like I am working with him. Your buddy you had known most of your life. Its great you get his tools.

That is cool Scott, nice score on the DRO Frankie...
Scott, it is good that you were able to pick up the stuff from Henry's wife. It adds to your capabilities and you will take good care of them and keep the memory of your best friend and all the great times and adventures alive.

That brought a smile to my face, as well as a tear to my eye... Hey Henry, where is the drill-bushing bomb-sight?

Here is a pic of some of the stuff I picked up yesterday. The Brown & Sharpe depth mic in the lower left still has an inspection sticker, and was engraved with his initials, which meant it was used in an aerospace factory. It may have been used while making tooling for Lear jets, the space shuttle, or other projects he had a small part in during his career in the industry?

I'll get some more detailed pics since you guys are interested. The small dial indicator near the center of the pic is an "Aerospace" brand(???) and reads in .0005" increments.

The reed valve is actually from his '82 XR 500; he bought a piece that replaced it when he fitted a 38mm Mikuni. It was supposed to help the bottom end response or something? To the left of the parallels is a flywheel puller that may fit a DT1 250? He had one 40 years ago.
I took a closer look at the inside mic set today: it's made by Lufkin, and it bears a patent date of Aug 1 1922. Henry inherited a bunch of tools from his Canadian uncle, and I suspect this is one of them. Thankfully, the rust is not in any critical places.
The small split-ball gauge (don't know the proper name..) at the top of the pic was made by Starett, and has a range of .175 to .225".

Using to rotary table make me dizzy as fcuk. What is the secret? I also messed with the angle of the head. I need to get a lathe....or a 45° end mill.

Seriously, as soon as I look away after a few rotations everything is turning turning turning. I looked up at the digital readout box and it looked curved.

FTG (for the geek) it is a Troyke 12" rotary table that weighs more than me. It is such an event getting onto the bed. (I bring the bed to it.)

Just Budweiser tonight homey.
