754 I have my eye on a south bend 9". Would be an easy fit for my basement. I am just not a fan of.....leather belts. Are there any conversion kits, or will it be selfexplanetory when I get it?

I have a southbend 9. Yea the belts come off under thard cutting..keep them wiped off.
Later ones use V belts..not. Sure if you can just swap out the parts.
Scott, i made a huge mistake at an auction once.. Stopped bidding on a apple box 2/3 full of drill bits up to about 2.5 inch or bigger drill bits.. Because they were metric. Most or all were over an inch. Because they were metric they went cheap ,,like 350 or 400.. That was in 87
What i did not know then s how much I drill to rough out, then finish. With boring bar..and metric would not really matter..most of the time..

My buddy's old Logan originally had a leather belt; he replaced it with a modern synthetic flat belt, but it would still come off sometimes. Most lathes require the head-stock to be disassembled to change the belt.
No carbide bits that I've noticed, and the largest is 1.25". A lot seem to be odd sizes; probably meant to reamed to final size after drilling. There are some 4-flute core-drills, and some small high helix 3-flutes with a threaded end where they would normally clamp into a chuck or collet.??

I was wrong about the drills with the threaded shank: they are 2 flute with a normal helix. The shanks are 3/16", the thread is .155" OD, and the drill is .100.
Also picked up more stuff today: 17 more pounds of drills, an index with taps and matching drills, drill blocks and drill bushings, and a bunch of transfer punches.

Nice selection of drill bushings ..i have gobs of them but mostly same size...probably made plates and installed  over a thousand of them for the local truck plant.. Worked on most of the cab drilling fixtures for the Western Star trucks.

I broke this today. I am so proud....none of the other guys at the shop are too thrilled. I was rushing to open the pressure pot in the background and one of the bolts absolutely jammed. I used a 6 foot piece of pipe and *snap*. Didn't budge. Wench broke.

I think you might have played football and know how to use your weight and body to push harded than the average person. I have always been strong and I am a large guy. Back when I owned a '66 Volvo 122S coupe I dealt with a lot of rust and broke a lot of fasteners until I broke too many expensive parts and was able to watch an old Volvo specialist mechanic who worked exclusively on Volvos and I learned how to deal with rust fasteners and stuck bolts. I lived in Columbus, Ohio area and learned from a mechanic in Ravenna, Ohio which is 1/2 hour E of Akron (just southeast of Cleveland, rustbelt.)
I also learned how to properly drill a bolt that has broken off and how to even repair (not pretty) suspension arms that were impossible to get when you snap a 1/2“ diameter bolt. Back when I bought the car in '94 for $1000 & it was in Champaign/Urbana, IL and  it was rusty, hidden by dirty undercoating that was 4-5 yrs old. Should have paid $500, I was naive and didn't know how to haggle or negotiate well; I was 32 (I turn 51 @ the end of month.) I am 6'4" and weighed 225-250; I am broad of shoulder and body and have always been strong and a big guy.  My brother is just under a year older and most people think we are twins, anyway...about 10 yrs ago my brother was messing around like when we were kids and would hit you on the shoulder but not as hard as he could. Well, he hit me pretty hard so I hit him pretty hard back. Guess I hit him too hard as he has never hit me again, he rubbed his shoulder and just looked at me and neither of use said a word about it. I have arthritis so it wasn't pleasant getting hit but, I wasn't rubbing my shoulder after his blow. So I knew I was going to hit him harder, just didn't realize I bruised him bad. My biceps are much leaner again (have lost 108 pounds since July '12) and they are 20" in diameter and are solid, minimal fat. So, I have to be careful sometimes as I can break stuff that is big and tight. I have broken a 1/2 inch Craftsman ratchet wrench from the early 80s with a 2.5 foot grey plastic water hose that was stronger and thicker walled than schedule 40, it was designed to deflect without breaking unless it were overloaded massively in shear. It was light and strong and I used it as a cheater pipe. Unfortunately, I broke my 3/8 ratchet from that era after they started making junk and the replacement is stronger and better made than the Chinese junk they sell now, it is still lesser quality. I break 3/8 ratchet wrenches without too much trouble.  The composite ratchet wrenches from HF are good quality Chinese made, BUT, I will use an all metal one if I heed to put a cheater on it or really wail on it...

They are angry because they realize it is going to be hard to replace it.
That wrench probably cost $125-150 to replace with similar quality.

I like what few S&K, Matco, Snap-On tools I own. I will buy Harbor Freight before I will buy any Sears. I won't buy Sears tools anymore.

I like to use the "blue" wrench and PB Blaster penetrating oil myself. The later stinks but it works well for me... They say Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil these days works better but, I have plenty of PB Blaster...maybe I will try it when I run out.
The "blue" wrench is another name for the Oxy-Acetylene torch... It can be a game changer for having a bolt break free...rather than just break.
