Given the restyled remakes of the muscle cars with very high shoulders and not a lot of height, you might be hard pressed to slide through a window unless you are tiny today

Glad I had some patience like chickenman said and didn't jump on the first GW I looked at. Pic below, this is the one that had the engine swap and a handful of other things. Stev-o made the comment if it doesn't feel right to you walk away and it really didn't so I let it pass. The 2nd pic is one I was going to check out last Saturday, but never did because I ran across the black naked 1977. 3rd pic is it loaded on trailer to bring it home. I think I made the right choice. ;D

Here's some info on the black 77 GL1000-
My wife and I left out last Sunday(4/21) around 1:00 with P/U and trailer headed to Dallas(no stev-o not Texas, but North Carolina. Was about a 2 hour drive one way. I got the bike from Brent(he's in a few of the pics) and he had got the bike at a estate sell of the deceased who was the original owner of the Wing. He had bought the bike brand new in 1977 and I have the original title in his name and also a copy of his death certificate, so I can get the title in my name. The original owners name was Laverne Anderson and was born 4/11/1919 and died 12/21/12 and was 93 years old and was a chiropractor his whole life. Brent didn't know how long the bike had been parked. North Carolina hasn't had inspection stickers in years, but the last sticker on the front fork is from 2001. All the original stuff on the bike is in good shape. The original pipes, paint, and  seat look almost brand new. But the bike is 37 years old so it needs all the usual stuff, tires, brakes, etc. And of course with the GW the T/belts have to be replaced. And sometime over it's life the bike went down on its right side causing some minor damage. The worst being the right side timimg cover, part of it is broke exposing some of the pulley and belt. I just had to take the Wing down the road for a few miles today, taken it easy on the bad tires(the rear is the worst) this Wing is a Hoss, it makes my 750's feel small. It's going to take me a little bit to get it safe for the road, but by just my short ride today I can tell the black GL1000 is going to be awesome!!

Great pickup mate, I wish my '77 looked that good! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's a very simlar setup to the one that OldSchooliscool has on his Wing.

I wouldn't want a sidecar attached all the time, but I wouldn't mind having one for occassional use.

Of course I need to replace the T/belts on the GL1000(don't want to take any chances ;) I can get a good deal at Napa on the belts #250274 is the correct # I think. But I also want to replace the broken Rt. inner t/cover while I'm at it. I guess when it went down on it's right side sometime in years past it broke off part of it. #5 in the parts pic witch is a discontinued part from Honda :( I've seen some on ebay that I can get, but does any GW guys have any other source on this part or maybe just have one laying around ;D

thanks

I'm guessing that there's a million of those things laying around mate, jump on the Naked Goldwings site and ask the question there and I reckon you'll be offered several. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well technically, your bike is still a SOHC4 Dwight, it's just a slightly different engine layout......... ;D

That's right Paul, and I was so glad that the 1200 engine I bought had a good alternator, my old engine will need a new stator when I rebuild it and shove it in my '77 GL1000 roller. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Started tinkering with the GL1000 today. Took the radiator and front covers off and getting her ready for 2 new T/belts. They definitely need replacing. The right belt is very slack and if you pulled hard enough you could almost side it off the sprocket without releasing the tensioner pulley.

Looking good Dwight, it wouldn't hurt to change the top and bottom radiator hoses while you've got the radiator off. Also, don't use the new acid based coolant, (usually a pink/orange color) it'll eat all the copper and solder in your radiator. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Getting 2 new rad. hoses Monday from Napa same place I got the T/belts. I think I'll go ahead and throw a new thermostat in there just to be safe. Terry what about the w/pump :-\ should I be concerned about it and maybe go ahead and replace it. Bike only showing 9200 miles, but the pump still is 37 years old.
