Well what are you doing riding your 'Wang in summer anyway mate? Everyone knows that 'Wangs are winter time bikes, you know, a bit like fat chicks? Way too sweaty in summer............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Tackling the front brakes on the Wang(as Terry calls them). Took the m/c off the bike and removed the reservoir to do some good cleaning, what a mess wouldn't you say. Upper mushroom shaped section looks like whats left of a gasket but I think it's just dirt and grud from over the years. Checked out the break down of m/c in the parts book and didn't see anything that looks like that.

Geez that one looks pretty good to me mate, you should see one I've got here, it's been soaking in diesel for 10 years and it's still siezed solid! ;D

Terry, Maybe you need to switch to ATF and Acetone to free it so you can clean it...

Might need a bead blaster for that one D...

that's normal for something sitting or never cleaned. I would clean all that out with some carb cleaner. put some compressed air through the 2 holes there you can see one is clogged.

Ha ha, yeah Dave, my mate Dale in Oregon sent it to me in 2002 but as I didn't have a 'Wang back then, I just dumped it in my diesel bath and forgot about it. I did check it last year, but it was still frozen solid. I might have to try the ATF/Acetone trick, as I think the one on my '77 is buggered as well. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I have seen somebody loosen up an engine with grease gun, the way you use it on brake cylinder.

Worth a shot, the last one:)

I got my GL1000 in April but just hadn't been motivated to put the time and money into it to get it ready for the road. Did t/belts and carbs and been sitting in the garage since. Well today I got my a$$ in gear and removed both wheels. Now for new rubber and brake parts front and rear. I feel good, actually put in some time working on it ;D

Presume you have read up on the shaft drive mtce... The splines need cleaned and inspected on the output shaft and the input shaft of the shaft drive.  The drive hub needs similar and  naturally a fresh batch of gear oil. The Honda Moly Paste is needed for the shaft drive. , There are eBay sellers who carry it cheap and South Sound Honda in Olympia, WA has some of the lowest prices available. Call in your order if they haven't fixed their online catalog ordering system.  I really like the shaft drive over a chain drive.

Had a few things I had to do today, but was still able to get a few things done on the GW. Installed new Honda fuel pump and did front calipers. They were pretty nasty and both pistons were stuck one worse than the other. But I was finally able to get them loose using my air compressor. The worse one I thought I might have to try the grease gun, but the air ended up breaking in free. Here's some pics.

Got to get 3 new front brakes lines also. Honda's are discontinued, any suggestions on best places to look for original type hoses.

I'm going to cannibalise my '76 GL1000 for it's front end to upgrade my Cafe Racer (I've decided that my '86 Interstate is the pinnacle of 'Wang ownership and I don't need two big 'Wangs........... ;D) and was looking for some cheap brake hoses that I can use, as the ones on my rolling chassis are long gone.

Of course, eBay is always my first point of call, so I found a set here, from the guy who sells the cheap (but excellent) 836cc kits:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181018919976?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I'm guessing (but won't know until I try them) that they'll fit, and for only $37.95 for all 3 "Made in Japan" hoses, they're a bargain! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well sohc4 members its been a little over a year since getting the 77 GL1000. I brought home a CB750 K4 several weeks ago and I wanted so bad to jump right on it and get it ready for the road. And I did remove the carbs and started cleaning up the mess that 30 years of sitting will do to carbs with gas left in them. But I had to force myself to stop working on my favorite bikes(CB750) and get this Wang finished and just about there. Charging battery, and planning on bleeding brakes today and hope they pump up and everything will be good with no problems.  The Wang might be going down the road later today ;D ;D About time you say ::) Where its been for the last year in my garage, but with almost everything back on it except battery and side covers.

What Ive done to it so far:
T/belts(gates belts from Napa)
OEM thermostat
rad. hoses(gates hose from Napa)
I guess being there I should of went on and put a new OEM w/pump on but at the time I did not see any coolant leaking and if it ain't broke I dont fix it. But sitting all this time now I've noticed several drops of the new coolant coming out of the weep hole.
overflow tank(ebay)
rebuilt carbs(randakks kit)
brake hoses(SS hoses from Slingshot)
brakes frt and rear(EBC brand from J&P cycles
rebuilt m/cyl. front and rear(OEM kits)
new tires(Dunlop 404) run these on the 750's
OEM fuel pump
OEM fuel filter
plugs
a/filter

It is a nice day here. I'll be working on 202 Goldwing. I just scored #202 1975  WIng about 30 minutes away from me so I bought. The price was right.
I'll be working on it today.
I hope you get to zip down the road soon so you can feel the smoothness of the Wing.

Roll out of the garage first time in about a year and just got back in from the shake down run on the Wing and Im impressed to say the least. Damn its so quite and smooth. Twisted the throttle just a little and I can tell this baby wants to get up and go(as fast as I want to go anyway) Have you zipped down the road on yours Paul.

Still got to give more attention to the brakes. Front doesn't feel bad but rear needs more work, way to soft. More bleeding on the way.

The CB's are going to feel almost like mini bikes after riding this big son of a gun. Heck still got daylite left  headed out on the Wang again. I love it ;D
