Took the Goldwing to work today. I go in at noon this whole week and get off at 9. Got home about 30 min ago. Im still amazed at this naked 77 Wing. I like my 750's and they go down the road good but this GW is in a league all its own. Since getting it on the hwy last week and even though Ive put less than 200 miles on it so far the smoothness and the quietness of this bike is spoiling me big time ;D

As they would say
Welcome to the dark side.

I know just how you feel. I was very spoiled by my Wing. There is nothing like being able to actually use your rear view mirrors.

Put some more miles on the Wing today and stopped at the Get and Go and ran into 2 others, 1976 GL1000 trike and a loaded 1999 1500. The guy with the trike wants me to see if I can help him with some carb issues.

Also checked my mpg on the Wang for the first time and it was 39 MPG doing mostly intown riding with a little hwy thrown in there. I think this is inline with most naked Wangs 75-77. Thinking and hoping that it should jump up to around 45 MPG out on the open hwy. So I will definitely be happy with that ;D

I've got a '77 and like it a lot.  It's quite comfortable with my girlfriend on back, and with the Hondaline backrest installed, she doesn't worry about falling off the back if I accelerate too quickly.

I like the '78s a lot and plan to get one eventually.  The made some styling changes to the faux tanks, changed to a one piece caliper design up front and I believe the "off idle" issue was gone with the newer carbs.  You can find these out there for reasonable money if you're patient.  The '79's aren't bad either, but they went to the newer turn signal design and I don't like the look on those bikes.

Join NGW and read up on Randakk's web site for all the great technical info.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Checked out your pics on your 77 GL1000 Tom .Nice Wang!!

Let me just say this once again, like I haven't said it already ::) I am so impressed with this 37 year old bike. Ya'll are going to get tired of me talking about it and posted pics.
Silky smooth and quite and and for a big bike still has plenty get up and go for this 57 year old. So if you have never considered one of these early Wings and happen to stumble across one thats been neglected some and just needs some TLC seriously think about bringing it home and adding it to your stable ;D You'll be glad you did ;) I think the other GW owners will agree.

Now to make it even better I guess I need to take a 3000 mile cross country trip to Los Angeles(Hollywood) and find Marcia and see if she'll go riding with me 8) That thrill is definitely not gone :P

My 23 year old son loves the GL and I would guess that someday he'll want one of his own.  He has commented numerous times on how smooth the engine runs and I agree.  There's nothing like it.  They're beautiful bikes, too.

I loved the sound of the GL winding towards redline, and it was eager to do it. I definitely plan to own another one sooner rather than later.

I've located a 78 model I'm going to look at Thursday. Pics look like it's all there, owner says it runs and has a title. It does have the Vetter fairing but that can be removed. I like the looks of the naked wings.

Good luck Hunter. Hope its a decent one  like my 77 thats just needs some love to get it back in shape. I like the naked 78 models. Some design changes like different pipes, comstar wheels, and gauge cluster to name a few. Keep us informed and take some pics.

Went out this morning and stopped at the the golden arches and got some hotcakes and sausage and a cup of coffee.

Ok I've had the GL1000 on the road for several weeks now and since then my butt hasn't been on my 750's or the Harley ??? So is this what its like to have Wang fever ::) Its hard to beat the smoothness and comfort of this old GW. Im I showing my age ;D Don't worry I'll get back on CB's and maybe even the Harley sooner or later ;) I've got a auction sale find 750K4 Ive got to start working on also. Its a tough job but somebodies go to do it. Haha! Hope it doesn't take me a year to get it on the road like it did the GW. If I knew the Wing was going to be this nice I would of got it on the road much sooner.

I'm looking for a 77 tach, right fork ear, and a headlamp ring. Of course their are some on ebay , but I thought I'd ask around first and look at some different GW sites.

I did go look at the Wing it was more project than i wanted. It hadn't been running for several years, the motor was free but i figured it would need a rebuild. It was missing one side panel and the other one had a big hole in it. The chrome was in fair shape but the bike had been sitting out for a long time. I decided it was way more work than I wanted so I passed.

I had noticed in the last 3 to 4  days my back tire on the Wing had a slow leak requiring me to add air every other day. I knew the valve stem core needed to be replaced but hadn't done it yet(big mistake) just told myself to keep a close check on tire pressure until I do. Well the other day i wanted to ride the GW to work and during my lunch hour I would use one of the techs valve core tools and put in a new stem core. I was running a little late but I made sure I checked tire pressure and it needed some air and I put 32 lbs in. But running a little late and in a hurry I didn't double check the valve stem to make sure it had completely sealed off(another mistake). I jumped on the Wang and headed down Hwy 421 running 70mph. I hadn't gone more than a couple miles when I started feeling a very slight wobble almost enough not to even notice. But this old Wing does down the road smooth and straight so I knew something wasn't quite right, but it didn't click in the old noggin and I kept on at 70. The unsteadiness kept on and started getting a little worse, what is that I ask myself and than my brain shouts out to me tire, flat, slow up. I let off the throttle started heading toward the grass shoulder of the hwy because of traffic coming up behind me. I had slow up to around 35 or so when the tire went completely flat and back end started getting squirrely as I went down the grass shoulder until I was able to get the big Wang under control and to a stop.

Glad you got it off the road with no issues hall. Scarey ride, aye? I actually spend more time on the 750's than I do the Wing. About the only time I take the Wing out is if I am going a distance or if my wife wants to ride. She loves the comfort with the backrest and arm rests I put on there. In fact, a few times  we would be moving along in the afternoon on a nice day and her helmet would bump the back of mine...yup, she started to doze off. Told her I am going to have to bungee her in place if she keeps doing that. We have some of our best conversations on the Wing.
