I got a 79 GL1000  last week. The pictures I took don't do it justice. I almost got a test ride yesterday  but the rain came and then the snow. I'm going out to try to free up the rear brake M/C.

I printed out Randakks tips on split timing and dwell.  Very interesting.  It's on his site but it takes some snooping around to find it.

I had an '83 GL1100, my first and only GW (so far).  Just never rode it, put less than 300 miles on it in 15 months, so I decided to sell it to someone who'd ride the thing.  Nice looking bike, heavy, handled okay, acceleration was acceptable, pretty comfortable though...

Didn't want to work Saturday but I made the best of it and rode in on the GL1000. I park it inside just like I do the CB"s. Don't like leaving my bikes outside unattended.

You're lucky Dwight, I work in a hi-rise office building on the third floor, and my bikes won't fit thru the security turnstiles...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah, the security dudes are really precious too Dwight, they won't let me park my bike on the marble floor in the lobby, even if i put a drip tray under it! ;D

I never liked the Goldwing much--until I saw these two that belong to a FB friend of mine (John Winston). Not your typical Goldwings though. :)

John is going to be out there racing it again this year. He is just as awesome as his bikes are.
It's kind of difficult to focus on the bike on that second picture.

??? Looking through my truck and under the seat(don't look under the seat much) ;D I found this Bates w/shield covered in a old pillow case. Been racking my brain trying to figure out where it came from and how it ended up in my truck. My son's must of picked it up somewhere and forgot it. Finally the light came on, my Wang. When I bought the bike I remember the seller giving it to me as I was leaving after loading up the bike saying here this goes with the bike if you want it and I just stuffed it under my seat out of the way. Looks like its a handlebar mount type, but I having found the mounting brackets yet. Never, ever had a bike with any type w/shield or fairing so Im curious if i can find the mtn. brks. and get it put on just to see how much difference it makes in handling and wind.

Dwight,

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
One thing to note.  Handlebar mounts tend t make the front end "light", whereas frame mounts don't seem to exhibit that behavior.  So if you are just testing for wind fine, but be aware that handling would likely be different with a frame mount such as a Windjammer.

Found the brackets and got it put on. Don't like the look of it on the bike no way, no how ;D The original owner must of been several inches or more taller than me because I can get it adjusted low enough for me so Im looking though it not over it. I would need a shorter w/shield. Doesn't the top of the w/shield need to be in line with the bottom of your nose. I rode about 20 miles the w/shield  does make the bike feel and handle a little different too :-\

Dwight,

On my 750 I have the Windjammer and the windshield is at the level of the top of my head, so I'm looking through the windshield as well.  The way the windshield in your picture is mounted seems a bit high.  The reason I like my windshield at the top of my head is too many encounters with June Bugs and other hard shelled flying cockroaches.  LOL  Had a lower windshield and took a June bug hit to the forehead part of my helmet.  Damned near knocked me off the bike.

Did the handling feel like the front end was "light"????
