I see that DSS has after market rims and spokes which are much less that OEM.  Anyone tried these and if so
were you happy with them.

I'd PM Iron_Worker about it. He got a set for his build project and had issues with the rear rim spoke holes being off:

Or I could just tell you now. lol

I noticed the DSS rims as well ... at 1/3 of the cost, who wouldn't?! I went ahead and bought them. When they arrived I wasn't totally happy with the finish of the chrome. There was quite a few noticeable imperfections in it but I figured if that's the sacrifice for the price then I will accept it. I also noticed that there was some grit or something trapped in the rim bead and you could hear it tumbling around in there ... not a huge deal but right off the bat the quality is not that great.

I re-spoked the front to the hub first and once I learned the method the front fit up OK. Didn't really have any troubles with it and I think it would have trued out fine if I had continued.

When I went to respoke the rear I had issues ... major issues. The holes in the rim for the spoke nipples seem to be not quite at the right angle on my rim. The inside spokes would go on ok but by the time I got doing the oustide ones it would be bound up so tight there was no play left to wiggle anything around ... even with the nipples completely loose. I ended up marring up a few spoke nipples and even stripped one because it was so bound up in the hole.

I know another member here had the same trouble with the rear wheel and got around it by drilling out the spoke holes. I didn't want to do this because it just created a place for rust to form. Would suck to have your wheels start rusting out within a year... #$%* rusts quick around here.

I ended up tearing them apart and ordering the proper DID rims. They haven't arrived yet so I can't say if the quality will be a lot better and the fitment will too ... but I suspect things will go much smoother with them.

So long story short ... the front worked OK for me and another member but the rear didn't. I cant' say for sure you're have the same experience but it seems likely.

Yep and I ordered mine from the UK branch ... before realizing there was a US branch ... so paying to ship them back is probably not really worthwhile.

Seems like they would notice that and refund you. Worth a call I think. I use them a lot they may work with you.

I have just returned a set too, front and rears. My issue was that the holes in the front rim were too small, the nipples either too tight to move at all or wouldn't even go in the holes, their answer was to 'ream' the holes to a larger size, my answer you can have them back.

Good to know. Maybe I will give them an email and see if I can work something out. Would be nice to actually have money coming in for a change. ha

Don't know if it's relevant, but I notice that the U.S. Branch sometimes doesn't have the same items in stock as the U.K. Branch.  Just thought I'd mention it.
