Yosh replica from Carpy works well, looks and sounds awesome! Very light.Bill
The weight is an important aspect too. Stainless does not need to be repainted as a painted exhaust. I had one black 4-1 that needed paint touch up very often. I'm sure that Carpy's 4-1 can be polished and chromed, but it will cost.

Perhaps not THE best, but a worthy historical footnote regardless...

P.S.  That is Russ Collins, BTW, from a January 1972 edition of Cycle Guide.  His first product...those 4 into 1 exhausts, chrome or black.  He sold LOTS of them!

Reply to Bill BentON: I used to have an early dyno chart for two CB750's that were swapped to Bassani's, but the dusts of time have taken them. Either that or they're lost in my attic. As I recall, there was a power pickup even with stock jetting, but with (was it 120's?125's?) a noticeable amount extra from 3000+ adding up to about 5 hp at 8000, which was as far as the dyno guy wanted to go. 5 hp might not sound like much today, but considering that the 750 was rated at 67 hp but probably averaged in the high 40's-mid 50's in the real world, it was a considerable jump. We never did try the "race only" cone, though!

Yes, an honest 10%! Most pipe manufacturers claimed 10-15%.10% more like it.Ever find the dyno charts, post please. Thanks Bill

This RC was bought 8 years later..1980.. I think I got the version for K7 when i ordered 1977 when my bikes registry paper is 1977 (but built 1976). That explain the upwards angle of the baffle. I had to use brackets for passenger fot pegs.  (The 4-1 on my avatar bike is an Alfa 4-1, good bang for the buck 1983.  Maybe I'll put it on again)

Yes, we thought so too here end of 70's, earliy 80's ! :-)
Not hat stable with 6"inch longer fork and that handle bar. 16"  and wider rear wheel was hot too then.... Open helmet was a must as well. Kawasaki Z1 900 mirrors as an improvement. I have bought new copies.
I still remember 5-15 bikes (Mostly CB750, Kawa Z1900/1000's) riding around like that, all with wonderful singing 4-1!! One guy twisted the throttle, all other followed.. Really nice sound!!!

My bike changed to this april 1984 with a new Alfa 4-1. (My RC was badly scratched and later sold) After that black seat and drag handle bar.

That look really nice. I can imagine it sounds awesome!
Water will enter the system when parked in rain so a small hole at lowest point needed to drain eventual water?

If looking for the best performance sohc pipe, how's about the Baldes 4:2:1 systems too?  And is there any consensus whether 4:2:1 is preferable to 4:1?
