Sounds great!  Can tell your dog really likes it too.  +1 I'd get a battery just a touch smaller.  I'd be itching to ride that beast, front wheel ready?

Continental motion.

So I bought this seat thinking it would sit flush on the frame... Am I missing something? I hope I don't have to cut everything just to create a flush seat. Wonder if it bends if it is a metal pan?

I was hoping it would sit flush from the tank back but what happens is it dips in the middle exposing a good 1 inch gap. I now see that DCC sells a whole loop for the top. Really not wanting to do that.

It bought the brat seat so my wife could tag along once in a while.
I should add a picture to show

By dipping, are you referring to the gap between the tank and seat, or the seat and frame rails?  Does the seat have a raised rear end?  Many folks using this style seat install a rear frame loop to fit the contour of the seat, as well as to reinforce the frame after cutting off the rear cross-member.

So you can see my frame curves a bit and looking into it, they use a metal pan. I might be able to slowly bend to match it a bit. I've tried making a seat and it looked like road kill. Does someone sell a good fit seat?

Cal,

Are you referring to the one he used on his 550 with the hump. You can source those through Motolanna or DCC. Even then, he will still need a hoop for support at the rear.

I was planning on getting the hoop 100% but wanted to make sure this worked before buying a $65 hoop.

The Motolanna version is less expensive by $60. Not sure if there are any differences. DCC does have excellent customer service.

Luckily the seat uses a metal pan so I was able to shape it a bit. Now it is flush with the frame and all the wires and battery fit nicely into the pan under the seat.

Now to see if I can get someone to make a hoop for me.

The filters are simply because I post these on Instagram.
Hopefully I'll have the other items come in this week.

Lots of aftermarket hoops available. Can you not find one that has the correct radius?
More worried because I bent the seat to match the frame so it might not fit a standard hoop.

You should be able to find a local metal fabricator who can bend/weld one to fit up with the contour of the seat.

So a good sized update.

I've mounted tires onto the rims, installed a Bates headlight ( was able to for all my minimal wiring from the controls inside ), replaced many bolts, added a gold non oring chain which was a pain to find, new cables and many other things.

Once I get the rear sets back in I'll hopefully be on the road not too much after.

I broke the tap inside the lower tree on the right side screw for the headlight, any idea on how to get that out?

You broke the thread tap off inside the hole you were tapping?

I'd weld a bolt to the end of it, and turn the bolt out. Since the lower is made from alloy, there's no change of the weld attaching to the lower.

I'm guessing you can't get to it with pliers since it's broken off flush?
It had a really small piece but broke when trying to use the pliers. The welding is an excellent idea!

Yesterday it not only ran, but I drove it a few blocks. I had to adjust the rear brakes a bit and bleed the fronts one more time.

Just ordered blinkers and taillight to I can legally drive on the road. Also bought an led light headlight to try out. I thought I would only be able to kick start it with the tiny Shorai battery but that sucker is dynamite.

Shouldn't the hoop have been welded to the frame before powder coating?
How are you planning on attaching it now?

Great build BTW.

It's been a while, so I looked back in the thread, and Jim and Cal have a point.  Since you removed the rear cross-member, you definitely will want a hoop to replace the structural support to the frame (to prevent twist), as well as to support the rear portion of the seat if you ride 2-up.  It's a bummer that the frame is powdercoated, but you can always feather/spray in a gloss black enamel paint where you weld in your hoop.

I was a dummy and was going to go a different route before. I will have to have it welded in and then, like you said get it painted. Waste of money, did this before I found this forum. :(
Next build I'll get the hoop done before!

For the velocity stacks, I use a pantyhose type of sock and switch them out all the time. I've taken the carbs apart a few times and haven't found debris so it looks to be working well.
As for the tank, I've just been out there every week cleaning it until I get it cleared next week. I've coated the inside and ordered a decal to go on it. Should look pretty classy when done.
