Missing front axle parts?????
« on: March 27, 2013, 02:17:41 PM »
I just disassembled the front wheel hub of my CB750 K2 to install new bearings.  When I look at the parts fiche, I see that I am missing parts.    I layed out everything I removed just like it is in the fiche for the picture.  I am missing part 10.  Part 9 looks a little different and I don't have the O ring part 20.  Are those parts from other years.  My parts book is K0 thru K2.

Looks exactly like someone was ready to do a dual front rotor setup.
you omit #10 with dual discs, and modify #9(speedo drive plate modification) to look like whats in your picture.....
#20 o-ring is omitted as well so the rotor fits flush against the hub.  guessing its purpose is there to seal an (unmodified) #10 against the hub from water/debris.

Ok,  starting to make sense now.  I cleaned up the parts and it looks like part 9 used to be cup shaped and they cut
off the outer edge leaving two little tabs sticking up.  Those tabs catch on two notches ground out on the hub. So the hub
was modified also??  So looks like to put this back I will need parts 9,10 and 20?

Yes, #9 was cup shaped at one time, and excess was trimmed so it floats inside the center of the rotor carrier.
(I just did this mod for my K8)

no, the hub is not modified.  from factory it has the notches like that.

if you want to put it back to the original config, then yes, you'll need a NEW (unmodified) #9, 10 & 20.

you dont need 10 or 20, if you go with 9 as it sits now.  you'll just have a collection of gunk in the speedo drive grease after a bit.  nothing there to keep it sealed.

and than aswers why the rotor bolts are so long.  There were 5 washers stacked under the bolt head to make it fit.  I bet the PO took off the other rotor and added the washers.  I need to find shorter bolts also.

lol...yeah. the PO strikes again. you can always trim them down then wire wheel them.
2 rotor setup bolts are M8 110mm.  i think oem are M8 105's, but dont quote me.

For now I think I'll just put it back the way it is and then change it after I find the parts.  I'm interested in the part
you have if its in good shape.  I will pm you.
