Need plug recommendation
« on: March 25, 2013, 06:16:31 PM »
Looking for a suggestion for spark plugs for my cb400f project. Basically stock except for accel 140403 coils and accel 8mm accel wire set. Other than that The bike is just meant to putt around town and occasional weekend cruises. Not racing it.

Thanks

NGK D8EA
You can also use the D7EA depending on what kind of riding you do.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Can you briefly describe the differences between the D7EA and the D8EA and how the type of riding would change the selection? Thanks for the info!

The D7EA is a hotter plug, the other is not. In theory you will get a better burn using a hot plug and it should make cold day starts easier.
I'm from CA its nice most every day hear. I tried them a long time ago and saw little performance value.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

Denso X24ES-U

The D8ES was a "Super-wide heat range" sparkplug. The EPA made NGK discontinue these in the early 1990s. Their replacement was the D8EA, a colder plug by about 1/4 heat range step.

The D8ES-L (now defunct, except in the resistor version DR8ES-L) has a Longer tip (i.e., Extended Tip) to help burn off deposits.

The superior plug is the Nippon Denso X24ES-U, which is a little hotter than the D8EA and idea for the CB750, especially with alcohol-laced fuels. It has an even more extended tip, with a smaller ceramic nose, which was designed expressly for the CB750, circa 1974.

I've used the D8EA, the Densos x24ES-U, and Denso Iridiums as well.  Out of the three, the X24ES-Us seemed to be easiest to start, and self cleaned a bit better than the D8EAs.  Can't say too much about the iridiums as they haven't been in the bike long enough to make any judgment.

I was running D7E as my winter plug last year, but it makes it run better even in summer - I just kept it on.  Easier starts and better idle.

I've read this before a long time ago and I will read it again but this is a good read. I know that lots of hiway riding vs city traffic makes a difference in which heat range you use. Read on:
