Here are my pictures of the Caprinteria to Monterey leg with GZ-3:
Met up with everyone at Carpinteria--of course Greenhornet/Sal was fashionably late!
Goldarrow/Paul, Mooshie/Lisa, Greenhornet/Sal, CoachDoc/John, Triumph Dude 2
Left promptly and rode from the 101 to the 154. The fires had since stopped and it was a quick uneventful ride along a few twisties. Here are a few images of the ride taken with my GoPro
A quick stop off the 101 to give Paul/Goldarrow a chance to carry GZ-3 into Santa Maria- with some pictures of all the CB's (and one Triumph!) once we arrived at Santa Maria
We seemed to have lost Pat somewhere along the way so we basically stood around wondering what to do. After much debate we rode to SLO and decided to stop at a lovely restaurant...it could have been worse as one of the suggestions was to eat inside a Target store
we eventually settled on a quick bite at Burger King and low and behold Pat appeared out of the heat of the day!
Pat and CoachDoc/John were deciding on how to allow Pat to carry GZ-3. Pat eventually ended up riding 400+ miles to carry GZ-3 for 2.5 miles-Now that is commitment!
We rode to the 1 and 101 and took some pictures of the handoff. The weather was temperate and it was a leisurely ride...but that would all change after the handoff
Here is a picture with Triumph Dude 2/Frank at the handoff-in the CA leg there is always 1 Triumph
We split up with CoachDoc and Pat off to Cambria. Sal, myself and Triumph Dude decided to ride the 101 into Monterey. That was ONE windy ride (of course). Triumph Dude said the wind was 17mph but it felt like far more than that especially going 80 mph (my little 550 held its own with Sal's 750 and whatever that Triumph was
)
I picked up GZ-3 for the push to Monterey and as his brothers did he snuggled into my pannier and stayed safely out of the wind
We had enough of the wind so pulled off at Greenville and rode in on Carmel Valley Road. A nice twisty ride that was less treacherous.
Once in Monterey about 6pm Sal and Frank wanted to let loose in downtown Monterey. I wanted to rest-I had pulled a muscle in my shoulder about a week prior to the ride and now my entire back was aching from the wind. I contacted Grumpy who really is NOT grumpy no matter what he says and Kyle who coordinated to pick up GZ-3 at just after 9am on Sunday. They showed up right on time-but guess who was fashionably late- again? This time Triumph Dude lost his keys but found them in his ignition. Luckily his bike was still there
We had a nice chat until they arrived and then we plied them with coffee.
Here are the bikes awaiting GZ-3
And GZ-3 immediately hopped aboard the lovely 70's paint of Grumpy's ride
The boys ohhd and ahhhd Grumpy's super cool jacket (and I am not exaggerating) and we discussed Kyle's recent clash with a mountain that apparently won and took a picture of the handoff
Kyle, Dave, me, Sal
We parted ways after gassing up. The heat (102 degrees) dissipated and now it was downright chilly and misty rain covered us all. But luckily the wind remained to guide us along Hwy 1. This is South of Monterey on Hwy1
Further along we stopped to take some pictures, hook up my Gopro, and so I could put on something a tad warmer. Where was the sun?
The following pictures are of our push homeward. We ended up hitting traffic once we got off the 154 near Santa Barbara and then we also parted ways.
Another great ride with some old and new friends. Looking forward to GZ-4. But this time I think I will change it up and meet Scott in Arizona and come back that way.
