Pulled the 77CB750F out of the storage container last week where it's sat for 2 years since undergoing a 9000 mile loop of the country. Still held together by zip ties, electrical tape, tent stakes and bungie cords after many hard miles on the road. Gave it a quick tune-up and replaced the rear tire and headed out Sunday morning.

She's experiencing the dreaded 25k F model valve issue but I decided to wing it and hope she still has a few miles left in her before a rebuild.
The weather report called for hot and sunny but at the last minute I decided to pack an extra layer just in case. After about 45 minutes of freezing fog I pulled over at the Pigeon Pt. Lighthouse to layer up.

I passed the Aids Ride on the way down Hwy. 1.

Turned off the 1 at Bonny Doon and and made a right onto Ice Cream Grade. Sweet twisty mountain roads that I've never done before, gotta go back.
Met up w/ Greg(cb750wannabe) and Pete in Scotts Valley just a few minutes after they arrived. A couple minutes later Dave(Grumpy) and Ken(KCBarsos) arrived w/ GZ3 from Monterey. Excellent timing.

We gassed up, hydrated and headed out towards Alices' Restaurant. Took essentially the same rout as the first year tour through this area but w/o the freezing cold weather. Also did a little detour down Alpine Rd. and up 84 for some extra corner carving action since we were making such excellent time. Unfortunately this led to a minor incident w/ a tron bike squid who had launched his idiotic ass over the double yellow while passing a car in a blind turn but I'll let someone else describe that since I didn't actually see the incident.
After a delicious meal at the famous Alices' we parted ways. I dropped off Skyline down Tunitas Creek Rd. to Lobitos Creek, to Verde to Purisma Creek, to Higgins Canyon Rds. and then up the 1 back home.
I just turned 40 last year and something must change w/ age because instead of coming home and enjoying a cold beer, I ate half an apple pie and fell asleep for twelve hours.
Godzilla patiently waiting for the surf to shape up.

It stayed pretty junky so he decided to just go for a swim.

Afterwards he enjoyed the swingset for a while.

On the way in to work with me he stopped to compare notes w/ Marvin on their plans for world domination.

So now he's gonna help me switch the coils and ignition system out from my cafe bike to hopefully cure my intermittently non-firing #1 cylinder. I'm sure we'll have a few minor adventures between now and Wednesday when we ride up north to meet Ken and Dave. I'll keep y'all posted.
So much to do, so little time.

Thanks guys for an excellent day of riding!
With regard to the minor incident: We were less tan a 1/4 mile from Alice' Restaurant. The tron bike squid launched his idiotic ass over the double yellow while passing a car in a blind turn coming toward us.  He was flying and completely out of control, high sided, went inside of me to my right by about 6 inches; then sideswiped Pete leaving a minor dent on his pipe then plowed into the dirt embankment.  We were all rather fortunate as it could have been MUCH worse.  The squid dude was miraculously uninjured.  Godzilla was pissed!  We had to hold him back from toasting the squid and swallowing him whole.

Hopefully the squid is going to be buying Pete a new 341 pipe.
You guys were lucky the squid didn't take you both out.
Early season riding in many areas is leading to lots of accidents. Would think California wouldn't be in this group since it is so nice there year round. Maybe it is just new squid bikers...

6/1/2013

Woke up on time but left late do to a malfunctioning turn signal and battery problems. Got on the 405, the world's largest parking lot, with Triumph Dude #2(Frank) to meet CochDoc(John) and Goldarrow(Paul). Luckily they were patient enough to wait a little longer for us to arrive. Then we hit the road to meet Mooshie(Lisa). On the way there CoachDoc almost hit a flock of Vultures feasting on road kill.

ME, GoldArrow, CoachDoc

Triumph Dude#2, CoachDoc, Goldarrow

We made good time taking the 126>150>Carpenteria.

Deciding which route to take and checking in with Pat_At_Ape

CoachDoc's bike clean as a whistle!

Gassed up in Santa Maria and waiting to hear from Pat who was suppose to meet us in SLO at a mysterious location.

We decided to do some fine dining in SLO at the good ol' BK lounge. We figured it would buy Pat some time to catch up with the rest of the gang. Moments later Pat shows up. He carries GZ for a whopping 2.5 miles and heads to Cambria with CoachDoc.

Triumph Dude#2, Mooshie, Coachdoc, Pat_At_Ape, GreenHornet74

Mooshie, Triumph Dude#2, and continue the 101 towards Monterey. We experience hot and windy weather which was making us tired and drowsy. We decided to cut acrross from Greenfield through Carmel Valley to Monterey. The mountains provided us with butt loads of twisties, one lane roads, and non-interstate hwy scenery. It also sheltered us from the wind and sun. We eventually made our destination before sun down woohoo!

Mothra tried to attack Godzilla but couldn't win.

6/2/2013
Met grumpy(Dave), and Kyle for the hand off and off we(mooshie, triumph, myself) went down HW1 back home 8). My bike was having trouble starting. Dead battery. Good thing these bikes came with a kick starter. Phew!

Kcbarsos, Grumpy, Mooshie, Greenhornet74

PCH:

On the way back we stopped in Ventura to check out this motorcycle culture shop. Picked up this sweet shirt!

This years rally was a blast! Total round trip was almost 700miles in two days. It was nice seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones as well. Can't wait to do it again next year!

Sal, it was an awesome 2 days. Glad we were able to hook up as  planned and make the trek together as far as SLO. The trip to Cambria for me and Pat was short and sweet, then Pat headed back home to try to beat nightfall. Sunday I rode a bit on the Route 58 he was talking about.....pretty desolate. Looking foward to next year already.

Here are my pictures of the Caprinteria to Monterey leg with GZ-3:
Met up with everyone at Carpinteria--of course Greenhornet/Sal was fashionably late!

Goldarrow/Paul, Mooshie/Lisa, Greenhornet/Sal, CoachDoc/John, Triumph Dude 2

Left promptly and rode from the 101 to the 154.  The fires had since stopped and it was a quick uneventful ride along a few twisties.  Here are a few images of the ride taken with my GoPro

A quick stop off the 101 to give Paul/Goldarrow a chance to carry GZ-3 into Santa Maria- with some pictures of all the CB's (and one Triumph!) once we arrived at Santa Maria

We seemed to have lost Pat somewhere along the way so we basically stood around wondering what to do.  After much debate we rode to SLO and decided to stop at a lovely restaurant...it could have been worse as one of the suggestions was to eat inside a Target store  :o  we eventually settled on a quick bite at Burger King and low and behold Pat appeared out of the heat of the day!

Pat and CoachDoc/John were deciding on how to allow Pat to carry GZ-3.  Pat eventually ended up riding 400+ miles to carry GZ-3 for 2.5 miles-Now that is commitment!

We rode to the 1 and 101 and took some pictures of the handoff. The weather was temperate and it was a leisurely ride...but that would all change after the handoff

Here is a picture with Triumph Dude 2/Frank at the handoff-in the CA leg there is always 1 Triumph

We split up with CoachDoc and Pat off to Cambria.  Sal, myself and Triumph Dude decided to ride the 101 into Monterey.  That was ONE windy ride (of course).  Triumph Dude said the wind was 17mph but it felt like far more than that especially going 80 mph (my little 550 held its own with Sal's 750 and whatever that Triumph was ;))
I picked up GZ-3 for the push to Monterey and as his brothers did he snuggled into my pannier and stayed safely out of the wind

We had enough of the wind so pulled off at Greenville and rode in on Carmel Valley Road.  A nice twisty ride that was less treacherous.

Once in Monterey about 6pm Sal and Frank wanted to let loose in downtown Monterey. I wanted to rest-I had pulled a muscle in my shoulder about a week prior to the ride and now my entire back was aching from the wind.  I contacted Grumpy who really is NOT grumpy no matter what he says and Kyle who coordinated to pick up GZ-3 at just after 9am on Sunday.  They showed up right on time-but guess who was fashionably late- again?  This time Triumph Dude lost his keys but found them in his ignition.  Luckily his bike was still there ;D
We had a nice chat until they arrived and then we plied them with coffee.

Here are the bikes awaiting GZ-3

And GZ-3 immediately hopped aboard the lovely 70's paint of Grumpy's ride

The boys ohhd and ahhhd Grumpy's super cool jacket (and I am not exaggerating) and we discussed Kyle's recent clash with a mountain that apparently won and took a picture of the handoff

Kyle, Dave, me, Sal

We parted ways after gassing up.  The heat (102 degrees) dissipated and now it was downright chilly and misty rain covered us all.  But luckily the wind remained to guide us along Hwy 1. This is South of Monterey on Hwy1

Further along we stopped to take some pictures, hook up my Gopro, and so I could put on something a tad warmer.  Where was the sun?

The following pictures are of our push homeward.  We ended up hitting traffic once we got off the 154 near Santa Barbara and then we also parted ways.

Another great ride with some old and new friends.  Looking forward to GZ-4.  But this time I think I will change it up and meet Scott in Arizona and come back that way.

Here is a map of the ride from Carp to Monterey and back

Firehouse Grill in SLO has great Tri-tip sandwiches, that would have been my suggestion for lunch.
Glad the trip was a good one and you didn't have a worse outcome with the squid.

Thanks - I think it looks even better on the 550s. I really like the black field on the side of the tanks.
