CycleX head gasket set
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:59:33 AM »
I am sure, the gasket set is a top notch quality - but is it necessary for normal, street bike built?

Experience, opinion?  Just trying to be keep the cost down, half convinced I should go with it, but it may be overkill??

It has everything I will need - http://www.cyclexchange.net/Super_Gasket_Top_End_Kit.JPG

I didn't see the price? How does it compare to the same in Honda brand? Any time you can get a modern upgrade for these bikes it's worth considering.

Get that and heavy duty cylinder studs and you may not see that ubiquitous head leak again. Plus should you have to tear into your engine there is a good chance that MLS head gasket can be reused.

It goes for $150 shipped to my zip code.

I am not sure about the studs, I tried to get one out and it did not respond to a significant force, I stopped before I could damage anything.

How does that price compare to the individual Honda parts? I like the MLS head gasket. I also have the MLS base gasket.

Some people break studs, some don't. Depends on the studs and how you remove them. I've removed 2 sets without breaking any. Lucky?!

I bought the whole kit. My bike is a super mild 849 and will be running a Web 41 cam. The gasket quality is flat out incredible.

The MLS {multi layer steel} head and base gaskets are the best you can get and well worth the extra dollars..

MLS base gasket really needed in an 836 engine?

I can imagine that bigger bore need MLS when the gasket area become smaller due to bigger sleeves and machined crank case.
I'll soon assemble my engine so the best gaskets are a good investment to ensure no oil leaks.

I have CycleX MLS head gasket for 65mm bore waiting.
My other gaskets are an (un)complete gasket set that were sold during the 80's + Engine Oil Seal Kit from the same period. Bought them for almost 25 years ago when I knew I'll open my engine soon :-)

I got the, Cycle X Complete Gasket Set and Oil Seal Combo, for $90 and it comes with everything. I got two extra gaskets, thinking the kit didn't come with them...I found them in the bottom of the stack. Call them if you have any questions. They produce high quality stuff I will be buying more stuff from their store...when I have more money.
