In trouble for the wrong reasons!
« on: July 24, 2006, 06:27:36 AM »
Ok so a couple of days ago, I was driving with the rest of the family. I am looking at this bike going down the road. Suddenly I am getting in trouble because I look at bikes too much! "why cant you be like a normal guy and check out chicks walking by"!

So now it is ok to stare at a woman but you can get in trouble looking at a bike?! It is not like you can cheat with a bike and knock it up and disappear from home with it! Yet I got in trouble for looking at too many bikes and not enough women!?

Someone else has had to have had this happen to them! Or am I the only one???

I was always told by my ex to stop looking at :

1. Cars passing by
2. Motorcycles
3. Girls walking down the street

This is why she is my EX.... ;D

Thanks for the confession.   I'll have to tell my wife that I'm not the only one.

I feel your pain. These "iron maidens" can be an expensive mistress. 1)You still have to lie about where you have been and what you have spent on her (bike shop vs bars). 2) Sometimes you would much rather be with her than at home . 3) Thinking about her when your spouse is talking.

i have an unnatural affliction with renault allinaces.
they're hype cheap and a barrel of fun to run and gun.

here's the weird part:
i can spot them even if i'm not really looking.

there's been a number of times when my "renault sense" has gone off and i find my self screeching to a halt to go backing up to look at that '87 GTA tailight i saw poking out from under a tarp behind someone's garage, 90 degrees to where i was looking while driving 60 mph.

unfortunately reanualts are very cheap and i usually end up buying it.  :'(

Crowboy, you must have triple jointed 9" long fingers to be able to work on a Renault! We used to have a '5' and even a simple job like changing the plugs was a complete and absolute pain.

Crowboy, you REALLY need help! Back in the 80's, I had a Triumph TR7, and my Dad had a Renault Gordinni. I must admit, the Gordinni was a really fun car,( and I used to steal it whenever I could),
But I would say that if the TR7 was mechanically the worst car ever made (Why do the English like warm beer?.........LUCAS REFRIDGERATORS!), The Gordinni was much worse!

for the benefit of my american cousins:

the renaults in europe were designated by a number series

5 series = Le Car
9 series = Alliance
11 series = Encore (hatchback)

frankly i wouldn't work on a 5 series if you paid me.
the labor hours for a starter change are booked at six hours. you have to pull off the intake and exhaust manifolds to get it out. no #$%*.

the 9 and 11 series however are extremely fun to work on. especially the 1.4L with the five speed manual.gobs and gobs of room. i generally put my tools in an ammo case and left them under the hood.

i have a 1961 4cv that i'm hoping to finish shortly before hell freezes over.

can't speak much to the gordini, was it the mid/early seventies one based on th R15/R17 series?

absolutely the worse car ever: the Triumph Stag.

Ok, I'll concede that just about any triumph was a cluster (EXCEPT my high school car, a TR10 Wagon!)..The Gordini was late '70's/Early '80's, kind of fastbacky if I remember right. It was quick and steering was great..fun to drive..the coolest part about it was that the sunroof opened up the entire roof to the back window. It was during the great "sealed cooling system" era (so was my TR7), so when my Dad developed a leak, he just added coolant to the overflow tank...naturally, I borrowed it to go to West Virginia one weekend...since his leak was in the system and not the overflow tank, (so the vacume was broken), I was on a beautiful drive through the mountains and fried the engine! Try to get someone to work on a French car in West Virginia!
I jus found a picture of a Gordini. This one is Red, my Dads was Brown.
I also just found a picture of a TR-10 sedan. Cool, but mine was a STATION Wagon! I'll try to find a picture of the actual car and post it. It was tiny, had a 945 cc engine and a 3 gallon gas tank. I drove it until it became really unsafe. I wish I had it now!

Hey, I'm in double trouble too.

Fiat/Lancia and Honda 750's

Had a Renault Le Car in the late 70's bent a pushrod with less
than 30k and had to call Charles de Gaul to get one.

Here are my other toys.

I get the same talking to from my wife.  She says I can hear them way before she can.

Hey Rocking-M, when I turned 18 my dad said he would match my money to buy me a car, but it had to be his choice...I handed over my money (can't remember how much) and one day in the driveway there appeared a slightly worn out Fiat Spyder, red no less.  I just about died.  Her threw me the keys and I tried to start it.  No go.  "Probally a loose battery connection" he says.  I pop the hood and.....No Engine!  No nothing!  The other part of the deal that he didn't bother telling me was I had to put it back together before I could drive it.  Took us about 8 months, with all the "Might as well" projects, and this being pre-E-bay, finding parts was difficult.  But that car was fun when it was done.  Went a bit Fiat happy after that and got an X-19 and fixed it and drove it pretty much coast to coast on summer.  Talk about taking risks...

Hey historicjake,
an x1/9 was what got me hooked on Fiats. The wife and I bought one in 1977. Great car. And I have a race project one now in the shop that I've been tinkering on for (i hate to say it) 3 years. I hope to make a hill climb car out of it. That's real smart ain't it now.
A 1500 cc hill climb car. But it is gutted and will weigh only 1500 lbs. and maybe I can get about 150 hp out of it. Or is it a pipe dream.

I bet you made your coast to coast with no problem. What year X was it? Those 1300's would rev forever.

Just to go back on thread for a mo before the nostalgic posts return (how can anyone with even half a brain love the afore-mentioned Euro-trash? Uuuurggh!)

Eldy, your wife is worried that you're gay, and you're not looking at the bikes, but the guys who ride them. If you ever get that manky K8 actually out on the road again instead of just sitting in front of your PC typing crap, you'd stop looking at everyone else's bike, (or butt) and allay your wife's fears that you're batting for the other team! (not that there's anything wrong with that.....)  ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ahh terry, I have only filled about half a tank of gas in my car in the last 3 months! My K8 just keeps going! Also, I prefer to check out chicks on bikes. I know Oz lacks those! You all have sheep on heaps!
