Primary drive rubbers
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:05:29 AM »
Hi Guys,
For years been ignorant to this but while surfing various sites this does seem to be a problem. Two questions for all the experts
1.Does this really happen and the symptoms are what?
2.Why are the part numbers different for the k6 and if you can get this the price doubles almost?
I thought they were all the same even though they are both discontinued now see  http://www.eBay.de/itm/Primarruckdampfer-Honda-CB-750-Four-Motor-Getriebe-CB-500-550-Four-/221206209764?pt=Motorrad_Kraftradteile&hash=item3380eae4e4.
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Cheers

There has not been much chatter on this site about using those. My thoughts are that the majority of us reuse what we have.

We'll be looking forward to your report after you install. Price seems resonable and it comes as a kit. Why not?!

This is interesting because although I have seen these available for 750's I've never seen them for the 500. Any of my really close European friends care to help me with an e-bay transaction?  ;D

Not rear cush drive rubbers, primary cush drive, what the primary chains run off inside the engine.... ;)

Thanks Bryan, I've just changed those, but the e-bay ad is for the clutch hub dampers which I've never seen offered. I took one apart that was loose & the damper rubbers are hard as a rock & cracked. The hub itself is perfect otherwise.

The German SOHC club has them for the 750 but will not sell to anybody outside of their group. At least that is the way it was.

bwaller, never even considered taking one apart, might be worth comparing to the 750 ones if you can one of each in biyts in the same place at the same time

Sounds like we will have to infiltrate their fold.... 8)

Hope you don't mind straying off topic for a bit yesteryear.

Bryan the late model hub in my race engine became quite loose on the rivots, but the hub itself was worth saving so I took it apart thinking I might rebuild with parts from an older tighter hub. I sent this German man an e-mail asking if I could buy a set of rubbers.

Turboguzzi has suggested welding the plate to the primary gear then re-rivoting. For sure this eliminates one problem but will undoubtedly create another. I'm certain without damping of the hub the plates/discs will notch the aluminum hub/hub center very quickly. Plus all the stress is on the rivots, keeping them tight might be difficult.

Welding is an option, I'll see if this guy responds. Any other ideas...I'm all ears.

M3 used to do a lot of stuff for the 750 racing but also did a bit with the 500 so it might be worth asking them

I bought a new set for my 1978 CB750 from Bike Bandit.
The old ones were ruined from the heat from the brake drum getting hot.
They were shrunken from the heat too.

Funny?? I went to Bike Bandit to buy a set Lucky and they don't list the separate components of the primary drive sprocket?? You had my hopes up. Are you thinking of the rear drive cush rubbers?
