t-bolt clamps on intake boots?
« on: March 31, 2013, 06:57:09 PM »
Anyone successfully switch out the stock "stretchtastic" intake band clamps for t-bolt clamps? I did a quick search but I'm not seeing anything right off wonder before I go in for $6.00 a clamp.

I haven't seen anything for what I think is a reasonable price for clamps. What I have noticed and am going to do is to straighten the mating surface where the clamp ends tighten. The get bent inward towards eachother and make it harder to tighten the phillips head. I'm gonna flatten them up because on the one or two I have done this to they clamped better

Also get some fresh bolts in there not the worn out JIS stuff

y2k ; Not sure the model your wanting to clamp but there is a guy over at "Hondachopper" that sells some killer Stainless clamps. There not T-bolt clamps but have the rolled edges that won't cut your boots plus they're stainless. Lots of guys over there use 'em. I've bought a couple of sets myself, not because they broke just needed a couple of sets. You might give him a shout ! Here is a link to the Hondachopper page where he llists them, http://hondachopper.yuku.com/topic/12545/Stainless-Steel-Intake-Boot-clamps   . Like I said Nice clamps and not bad price either.   ...cougar...

Big thing is they need to be no wider that the originals or they will distort the rubbers and alow air leaks

TY great fine. I was having a hard time locating these type clamps, I'm sure like others, for a reasonable amount of money. Hopefully the will work with PD carb boots.

That's what I thought. I don't mean to get off subject but how are they working? Is the material super flexible and almost spongy or is it more rigid and solid. I ask because a customer of mine has an F2 head I just ported and I haven't handled those insulators.

I wouldn't call them "spongy" but they are flexible. Very easy to get on and off.  I've only had them a few months. Had to order another set because I over tightened #4 and did not have it seated properly and put a tear in it. I don't think they are as tuff and thick as OEM. But then most OEM ones I've seen are 30 plus years old and have had time to harden. With those clamps we've been talking about you can easily over tighten them and cause damage to the insulators even though they have rolled edges.

Got the last set of these clamps from the Honda Chopper's guy. I will be aware to not over tighten them.

I understand. It would be nice to get some feedback after using them this riding season....very interested to know in how they hold up to the ethanol.
