Where's part one?  Is that a rubber strip with flexible struts instead of the traditional pneumatic tire?

Wouldn't be worth much in the mud, and how would  balance be once "full of mud"? "Not to good"!

right. so don't put them on your "off-road" vehicle...cause we know how often SUV drivers go off-roading.

i think the pic is just for demonstration, the actual tires would have enclosed sidewalls. not a bad idea considering how bad people are about checking tire pressures.

anybody seen a 2-wheeled version? i looked around, but never came up with a photo of a motorcycle fitment...

hard for me to imagine a one-to-one technology transfer in this case...seems there would have to be some significant alterations to the design before use on a 2 wheeler.

c'mon you engineer types, step up - here's your chance!

I agree. I'm having difficulting envisioning how this desighn would function on two wheels heeled-over in a tight corner.  ???

Seems like it would work, but might be a mean ride, with air you have the whole air space inside the tire acting as a shock absorber, so bump stress is spread out all around the tire,  on this you'd have a few small 'links' taking all the stress from an uneven patch,  seems to mean you'd have to have a stronger rim to handle the localized stress/point loading. Might be fine onroad, but I wouldn't like the extra weight off road or with any serious handling needs.

A very stiff tread section may spread load to all of the supports, but be heavier yet.

that's exactly what i was imagining, bob...

maybe the "spokes" would have to be triangular out and down from the center? maybe flared and cupped at the contact surface...

Nah, just a hinge pin in the middle of the "spoke." That way the flat side is always on the road!  ::) ;D
