If it makes you feel any better some things are just unadjustable. I put a VERY expensive exhaust on my Buell, and it never ran right after that. Always had a hiccup from low rpm to wot. Tried everything even a custom tune (fuel injection). No one was able to get it. It doesnt affect the ride but it sure as hell pisses me off. My cb on the other hand, smooth as silk. ;) lol seriously my Buell is for sale because I refuse to ride it over the 550.

Puny female mind? I cannot accept this. Puny minds are for those who do not accept opinion. Gender has no influence. Challenge what is unknown. But accept the result as long as it based on fact not opinion.

Here is something totally different .... sticking intake valve? Getting some slight spit back through the intake tract?

Inkscars, your last post about what you've investigated did not mention looking for locations the spark plug wire might be contacting other components and arcing.  The reason I bring this up is because I saw the exact same issue on a CB400f a guy brought by my garage here a few years ago.  Even if you replace the cap and trim the end of the wire, the length of the wire itself can arc.  It's an easy thing to check.

I will have a look tonight.
I CAN tell you about the most primitive test I did perform that made me fix it before.
I grabbed a hold of it and it made me pee a little. It no longer does so.
Not sure why it would matter, but it doesn't start doing it until I've ridden quite a bit.
I remember another forum member having an issue of losing complete power after the bike warmed up because of a a wire that would start to droop after it got hot and ground out. So, i will probably have to wait until I get home from the show tonight.
The issue DID NOT happen since the rebuild until it got above 65 degrees here too.

If its happening when the bike heats up it could also be a coil failing, i have seen that happen before.. Just a thought...

Sure you're getting proper fuel flow to that carb? Needle/seat/float sticky/leaking?

Sounds like that "puny female mind" can probably make the majority of members here look bad  ;)

Watch the video in the first post: the vacuum gauge on the left moves sharply at the same time as the snap. If there was no damper, it might even move into positive pressure. Even if the spark plug wire was removed, as long as the motor was turning the same RPM the vacuum gauge wouldn't change sharply. The sharp decline in vacuum can only be caused by a backfire in that cylinder, IMHO.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

My best guess is too lean. This is based on the fact that the issue in the video is at a constant idle speed. The first thing I would check on that cylinder is the fuel level in the float bowl, using the clear tube method (stupid simple to do on the PD carbs) and compare it to the levels on the other 3 carbs. I'll bet a cyber beer it's 2mm or so lower than the "good" cylinders... ;)

Problem isn't the wire.
Good news I guess.
The bad news? I don't know what the hell happened, but that bike was so #$%*ing mad at me yesterday. Hiccups, farts, burps, idle sticking.
So. Since I've done it just maybe a couple times, I'm gonna go take the carbs off.
I stayed up late making breakfast empanadas so I could sleep until 10 and then get straight to work. I'm going to pull everything, and check my needles and float level on 4.

It can also mean a clogged exhaust pipe.

I concur with Scott, that you are getting a mild gurgle/backfire in the one cylinder from being too lean.

Presuming it isn't fed directly from the tank, check your o-rings in the feed tubes and the Orings on the manifold as well as your manifold to carb boots for leaks.  It is getting too much air, just a question of what is causing it.

Hang in there.

Choke doesn't fix it. Actually sometimes it seems to make it worse.
Speaking of making things worse I just #$%*ed up royally and now I get to order slow jets. Yay, with all that money I have.
Oh, and every seller I can find with #42 slow jets are all screw in style and not pressed in.
So anyone with knowledge on where to get #42 PRESSED in slow jets, ill be grasping my phone in my exhausted little hands.
