Hearing
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:58:29 AM »
What do you guys in the southern section of N/A do about or for hearing aids? My hearing is getting to the point were my wife is giving me the gears about getting a hearing aid and being of Scots descent it causes my soul to shrivel when I look at prices for such. Here in Ontario the good I've been quoted 1200-2600$ and I consider that a colossal raping considering that the chips used for hearing aids are about 25$ and to justify the rest of the price  the bodies would have to be made of at least platinum with diamond resistors and capacitors, and atomic power batteries.

Do you have health insurance and if so does your policy cover hearing aides? My oldest son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 6 years ago and after the first year he decided he wanted an insulin pump because using a syringe all the time for insulin injections started to really suck really quick. An insulin pump at that time cost about $8,000, once I found out my companies health insurance policy would cover it I found out how much they would cover and I eventually ended up having to come up with $800 out of my pocket. This was at the end of the year so before the new year started I tacked that $800 onto my health insurance's flex plan so it was immediately available to me at the start of the new year so we could purchase the insulin pump.

No my insurance is the standard Ontario health insurance and you know even if I had a private add on I think the cost would still upset the hell out of me.

I know someone ( 93 years old still lives on her own) here in the U.S. who payed $4000 for one so your price doesn't sound too bad.  When the time comes for me maybe I will slip north across the border for some shopping. ;)

RR it's a delicate process one has to have the skills of a Ninja master so that you stay in character with out annoying the other partner, unfortunately I don't have the skills of aforementioned master, I'm closer to the claymore wielding carry all with the first rush bellowing at the top of my voice type.
S-rust I am not sure if our prices are cheaper I wonder about Mexico?

Hi Bill,
A couple of years ago my hearing was getting bad. Had to turn up volume on TV and radio and kept asking the wife what she said. Went for hearing aid, cost $1500. I wore it but didn`t think it was all that great. A friend suggested I get my ear flushed. I did this and my hearing improved immediatly. Cost-$125. I don`t need the hearing aid any more. $1500 wasted. Just a thought.

My boss used a disposable hearing aid they where pretty cheap. He had bunch left after his passing. I'll check Monday to see what they where. His son got those instead because he lost the very expensive one twice. And these where good for like 400 or 4,000 hours. Very small and not noticeable at all. He got them from a ear doctor.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"
