No metal on my brakelight to ground
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:10:33 PM »
So i have a set of small 2" circle lights that both have a red and black wire. I know the three connections from the harness are 1 for tail, 1 for brake, and 1 for ground. However, my little lights are completely enclosed and are plastic with no metal to hook a ground too.

Any thoughts? The lights arent lighting up at all, key position on or otherwise.

thanks.

here's a pic of underneath the hump. I connected both blacks and reds together.

Those appear to be marker lights.....in other words, they light up with one brightness....on or off.  The black and white wires are one positive and one negative (ground).  If you want a lamp that functions as a tail and brake light (I.e. two brightness levels), you will probably have to find something else.....like a light with a dual filament bulb or an led light intended for tail light use.  The type that you have there now would be something intended to light up the side of a semi trailer, for example.

those are either on or off, not dual intensity.

Shoot, that makes a lot of sense. The guy at napa told me
Differently. So could I still make them work just for a brake light for the time being until I find some different light? Obviously I wouldn't ride at night. Haha

Or possibly hooking up a seperate light strictly for a running light?

high school help  ::)
until you find a proper fix, you could have one on(constant), and the other come on when brakes applied.
what is the OD of your clusters?

google image search dual intensity LED brake light and you get a lot of hits.
hopefully something there to keep you from more mods to your tail section.

I'll do some searching, thank you.

Noob question, but what do you mean by OD for my clusters?

any 12v auto electronic flasher relay will work ~$8 at an auto store.
