MEADOWDALE RACEWAY
« on: July 25, 2006, 09:19:12 AM »
I was doing some research on Historic Racetracks (mainly due to my Vintage Sports Car affection) and came across one in my own back yard.  Meadowdale Raceway, (parts of the track still seam to exist that can be seen on a walk of the grounds). Located near Carpentersville IL. on Route 31, Meadowdale was a mecca of sportscar racing in the midwest during the 50's and 60's. It (and this is the reason for bringing it to the forums attention) apparently was the stop for an AMA 150 mile event that included the likes of Dick Mann, Cal Rayborn, George Roeder, and others. I think http://miroldpix2.homestead.com/65oldpix.html will get you there " I think"  The site has some real good stuff, mostly spots cars, but I think its worth checking out.

Geez, that takes me back.  I used to drag race a 55 chevy 210 at that track back in the late 60s.

Kinda sad to see it not used for racing purposes anymore.

Yup, my car club set up a meet a few months back and we walked the track.  We took along a members father and he was able to explain the details of the track.  There was recently some controversy over the silo there and the park district wanted to demolish it.  We succesfully lobbied to get them to repair and secure it instead of tearing it down.
