400F front wheel in a 550F front end
« on: April 09, 2013, 06:12:50 PM »
I just got 77 550F forks and triples to put on my 400F, but what do I need besides the 550 axle (since the fork spacing is +10mm) to use the 400 wheel?  Would it be easy to just make 5 mm spacers for each side?  Thought the brake rotor might be bigger on the 550 too?  Might that need to be more offset as well to keep the wheel centered?

Yep, the rotor's different, as is the positioning of the caliper mounts on the fork leg. It's not the easiest conversion at all,  the solution is the get the 550 wheel, disc and caliper and fit that, lacing a 40 hole 18" rim on the 550 hub.  I also thought there are issues with using the 550 yokes in a 400, CB450 ones are better if I remember correctly.

Thanks. The offset is different with the triples, but the 450 is the same as the 400 but the width is the same as the 550, so same issues with mounting the wheel.  I plan to get the 450 triples someday.  It's never easy is it?
